I did both my ankles in 2003, it sucked. I left my gas off at Starwest and the bike quit on the lip of the takeoff. The last thing I remember is pushing the bike away with my legs. Did both ankles and 9 of my toes, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I don't know his injuries beside the ankles in the "JG" thread, but it really sucks. Get well soon man, hopefully he has some good family and friends, he's gonna need 'em.

if it's his ankles i can relate. i blew my right ankle up a couple years back. 6 months of no weight bearing what so ever. got a plate on either side and 9 screws. still hurts to this day and swells up if i don't put it up every now and again. but I know there are guys on this board who've gone through much worse. hope JGs aren't near as bad as mine was.

On X Games today they reported fractured talus bone in each foot. Not saying it's fact, just heard on TV.

I blew up both talus two yrs ago, spent three and a half months in a wheel chair. Kinda brings ya down to earth. BTW my feet were on the pegs, I thought you were supposed to ride on the balls of your feet?

Crashed directly in front of me, was no where near Craig. Something happened with the bike (Tranny?) and he wound up slamming into a few jump faces and eventually one knocked him off, hit feet first into the next jump and never stood back up. Not going to go on and on about previous bike issues, etc. All I've said I know is fact. Kind of a bullshit deal, hopefully he heals up fully and quickly.

I am sure you guys will let me know if this is a stupid question, but here goes:

Why does a 450 Yamaha, with a decade-long rep for being reliable and powerful, need to be tuned to the point it is no longer reliable? Need more power?Whistling

Yep, broken talus on each side. The X Games doc was on hand with him, which was cool, but I have to say, it took way too long to get medical staff to him, and him off the track. Medic mule? Nope, not on hand.

I know they like to tout the effectiveness of their medical staff, but there are a couple glitches in the works.

Also, if you think the AMA sound testing doesn't do anything? Go to the X Games. At least some of the bikes were MUCH louder than normal.

I don't think that's the case. It sounds like some of the recent failures are all unrelated items.

Thanks. I just was thinking there was a "pattern" developing. I just don't hear, or witness any such problems, but here I am comparing at the amateur level.

Frustrated, that is all.Sad

If he was old like me, it'd be the end of a career before it even started.

I wonder if JGR's ability to fabricate/machine new parts and work so quickly on new ideas is preventing them from doing the proper testing of the new parts. Just an idea, but whatever the problem is, I hope they get it sorted out soon.

Major bummer for JG and the whole team. A Talus fracture is no small deal (let alone two of them if that’s the case). It’s basically like the Navicular of your ankle. No blood source other than the arteries running thru the bone, and if they get severed you could be looking at the bone dying and having to get the joint fused. I got lucky and just sat out six months, but the down side is there is no weight baring for like the first 3-4 (and also in a cast), so you get major loss of range of motion.

Get well soon Josh.

I shattered my calcaneous and broke my talus into 4 pieces on the Elevator at Gatorback late 90's. 2 plates 11 screws. It is the strongest bone in the body and they say most cases are from head on collisions. I limp pretty badly. This sucks for Josh. Hope he recovers quickly.

I think you're in heavy speculation territory...and I wouldn't want to speculate. Smile

From another site,

Transmission, rumor has it he told the team he was having problems with it on Friday and didn't want to race. Transmission broke before Millville also and that turned into a ambulance ride.
