Looking for tires that work good in sand/loam with some occasional hard pack. Hopefully something that will last a while. Any recommendations?

Sand, Loam, and Hardpack........That LASTS? Bwwaaahhahhhhaaaaaaa

Sorry.

First of all good tires don't last. Cheap ones do. Good tires only work well in one type of soil. Cheap tires don't work well in any type of soil.

Pirelli Mid-Soft, if it's more intermediate than soft Bridgestone M403/404 is also good.

Racing? Trail riding? Practice at the track? It really depends on this.

Practice days at the track and occasional race. Any opinions on Dunlop 51? Do they still make the 756? Looking for front and rear

If you practice more than race I would have to say the Maxxis hold up really well and have decent grip. They aren't as predictable as a 756 but what is? The new dunlops suck. You should probably try some bridgestones and maybe race more.

Have had excellent wear and great traction with the Michelins.

I wouldnt recommend a Dunlop to anyone. While traction is good, they wear out probably twice as fast as any other tire out there. For the best traction/durability combo, you cant beat the Bridgestone 403/404 combo. The Maxxis IT is a good tire that will outlast anything else on the market.

I used to run 756 front and rear religiously but now that they're gone (BAD move Dunlop), I run the MX31. The front isn't as good as the 756 but I swear the MX31 rear is better than the old 756. If you have a 450, get an MX31 with 120 width. Your cornering will thank me for it later.

Michelin MH3 or MS3 hands down. Last long and hook up .

The Bridgestone 403/404 combo is great in intermediate to hard situations and not so good in softer dirt. I'd go with something else.

Everyone saying that the Michelin stuff is good, I will agree with you on the rears, as they do hook up pretty good and they do last, but the fronts are dreadful. Actually beyond dreadfull. Nytsmac knows where its at though. The Pirelli int/soft front is the best front tyre going round. I use the int/soft front with an int/hard rear, and get great grip and good life no matter the track conditions. New bags for race day every couple of weeks and you are good.

IRC iX-09W would meet what you are looking for. Always had very long life with IRC tires. Used to run the mud tires on everything with no issues.

Glad I still have one brand new 756 front tire left on the shelf. Nothing currently on the market works as well in soft-intermediate dirt.

Dunlop, please re-issue this tire!

Please elaborate on the Pirelli MX tires... Which models are good for soft/int moto conditions?

The Scorpion 32 (used to be mt32) or whatever it's called now. Every person I've ever recommended that tire to says it's hands down the best tire they've ever tried. In sweepers (especially first turn ones) you just lay that thing over and pin it. If you look at the guys in Europe they run that tire at almost every single GP save for deep sand ones or hardpack ones. I think Everts ran that thing even on hardpack. From what I remember they run off the shelf units as well, not factory ones. I will say they wear quicker and the knobs will crack on the sidewall, but that tire is crazy good, especially for starts.

Cool, I'm interested to hear what you think. I don't have much experience with the front (I always ran a 756), but I ran that rear for many years. Seems like a good price too, where did you order?

I'll keep ya posted.

I ordered through mxxponsor. Pirelli offered a "sponsorship" or what I call "the weekend warrior discount hook-up", so I took the opportunity.

The Pirellis are really really good! I run them almost everywhere for many years, on raceday even on the concrete like tracks. They're a dream, front and rear. They do wear a little quicker, the knobs then start to break. But the hookup everywhere is great!

MH3 and MS3 are really good also with unbelievable wear resistance, but for the soft/mid I recommend the Pirellis.

Honestly, I only have those 2 kind of tires but will give the 403/404 a shot this year...

I've always been a Dunlop(756 now MX51) guy. Never tried anything else.

The 756's wear down quickly. MX51 lasts a little bit longer than the 756. Do the Pirellis have the same wear time as the 756's?

I run the "horrible" mx51 and I like them. They do wear quick, but that is part of the game. Probably not the best for trail riding though, because the nobbies tend to rip off on that stuff. I think they work good-great for track riding though. You can really tell when the tire goes away by the handling and as soon as you put a new shoe on(costly i know) you love them again. I do agree l like the 756 better, but what are you gonna do...
