Some pretty crazy action here. The commentating alone is worth it. Gaddis lays Antunez out a few laps in.

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this. My dad recorded it on vhs back when it first aired on tv.

So Emig was almost 17 racing 80's and was racing 125 nationals the next year?

Another rider took a different path to get there. In 1987, Jeremy McGrath was a CMC 125 Jr. and won the 125 C class at Loretta's. Also raced the A class in 1989 at Loretta's.

All 3 would meet at the June 10th, 1989 LA Supercross 125cc Final:

7th - Jeff Emig
8th - Jeremy McGrath
11th - Buddy Antunez

...thanks Racer X and Lorreta Lynn's Racer X Vault.

Yup. This is one of those video that pops up on here once or twice a year, and it's worth the watch every time.

I wish someone had video of the old World Minis at Saddleback from the early 80s. I'd love to see all of those badass kids from back then.

Paul Page and Steve Evans (RIP) did a great job covering these motocross races for TNN. From Swamp Buggy Races, Supercross, Drag Racing, or Indy Cars they were true professionals at covering motorsports.

Agreed! Such great announcing. I wish they were announcing SX!

Who's that "Brian Roth" character listed in the 80 class? That's a kinda slippery name...

I haven't been able to find it on YouTube but I used to have some American Sports Cavalcade videos from the 1990 Golden State series. There were some great battles between Kiedrowski and Mike Healey on a KTM in the 125 Pro Class.

There is nothing about Motocross today that I think is any better than this era.

What ever happened to Butch Smith? He was tiny but was very fast. Cool father. I think his nick name was "snowy" .

I think that race was in 1987, because Jeff was already on big bikes in 1988 lining up with B class spodes like myself. He turned pro in 1989. But yeah, he was a late bloomer with the whole puberty thing...and progressed through the big bike ranks quickly.

This was sort of “the peak” of the sport.

I think you're thinking about this race. 1988. Kiedrowski, Healey, Brooks, Matasiavich, and many more. Healey was on a Cagiva. Check out the gear evolvement segment!
