My daughter is 7 and her pw 50 is history along with her being too big for it anyways. She has a ttr 50 that maybe has 15 hours on it. how good is that bike? I don't currently have it in my possession it's in CA sitting at my parents place.

My girl had her first race a few weeks ago and everyone was on those sick ktm 50s and ktm 50 seniors including other girls. How will her ttr compare to those bikes as far as the power and weight ect as we will be racing all the time (she fell in love with it)

Will be big time down on power compared to the bumble bees like the PW.

I bought my 3 year old a ttr50 instead of buying the pw. I get to enjoy it as much as she does Cool

Doesn't sound like you have much experience with stock P-Dubs. Those things are beyond down-tuned. They are built to be like a small step up from a power-wheels, much milder in hit than even the auto-clutch 4-stroke 50s. Which is why they're great for a first bike.

Gotta give her props for crushing that Cobra out of the turn on a PW.

The TTR is definitely a step up in performance from a PW, and they are solid bikes. They are not in the same league as a KTM or Cobra in terms of hp, suspension or raceability (They are also in a different class in most racing bodies). But they are probably a better general purpose bike, as they are more trail-worthy and less fussy than the racebikes.

My kid went through a PW50, then to a KTM50SX, then a Cobra CX50SR. The PW was a PW. The KTM was obviously much quicker, but maintenance-intensive, not particularly well-built, and my intro into what a pain in the ass 50cc racers are.

The Cobra was an odd one to judge. The componentry and performance were amazing. It had crushing power, there were trick billet pieces all over, name brand suspension. And yet the general build, finish, plastics, design, etc were as if it were made in a barn.

I am glad to be done with all of them except the PW.

No Kick Start on the TTR SUCKS !!!!!! I sold it for that very reason when you wanted to ride it was dead and it was a bitch to put a tender on it without cutting into the factory harness. I switched to a JR 50 and life was good now onto a KTM 50SX but I would get her on a KTM SX mini or SX depending on her height or the TTR. IMO

Thanks for the help guys, so the power difference between a KTM 50 and the TTR is just night and day?

Yeah, the KTMs are on a whole other level. But really, this is all about fun. If she's not asking for a faster bike, leave her on the ttr. A KTM might intimidate her, or just get her going faster than she should be.

It seems like it will be a total step up from the PW obviously, so I'll keep her on that until she either tells me she needs a faster bike or if I see that it's a joke and she needs more power.

I'd be pretty tempted to avoid the fast 50s altogether. The clutches especially seem like an absolute nightmare. I'd just let her race the PW class that most places have until she was old enough to get on a 65. It's a bit of a jump but it's what basically everyone did back in the day.

This post may be written with memories of Dad and a LEM 50 back in the day. He always smiled but it seems like that bike was in pieces more than any other we ever raced.

50's have come a long ways in the last ten years. We had an 03 ktm 50jr sx last year. The clutch was kind of a pain to deal with. Moved to a 13' cobra jr this year and just change the clutch oil often using cobra clutch milk and it's been pretty good.

Had to replace some things like clutch cable, head set bearings, wheel bearings, but the basis of the bike has been solid.

As far as performance vs a pw....think plastic butter knife vs surgical scalpel. It's night and day. Maybe bigger than night and day, but some kids don't go any faster on a cobra than a pw. All depends on how aggressive the kid is, but the capability of the bikes will scare the hell out of you as a parent.

I got no comment on the bikes cause we are way past that stage with my daughters, but those are GREAT pictures!
Your little girl is a beauty Smile very nice that you share racing with her.

I love having my girls at the track.

Thanks man, yeah this was a race in St. Mary's Idaho. Perfect track for little ones. Cole Siebler and national number 92 Ryan Breece we're out there flying.

She had the chance to ride her new bike over the summer. It obviously fits her absolutely perfect. With her turning seven next week, there's absolutely no reason why she should be on a PW 50… Now I just got to get down to Sacramento to pick it up!

Ttr 50 was my sons first bike... At 5/6... Bike was bullet proof but once my kid got out a few times and became more confident u could see the ttr was holding him back a little.. Problem is they are very heavy and the suspension deffo isn't great.if it were me I would get a Ktm.. U can restrict them also and if u get a good one and look after it they are reliable, these are proper race bikes and shld be maintained as such. So I guess it just comes down to ur kids confidence and how serious u are going to take riding/racing.. Putting my son out to race a ttr I feel he would be at a if disadvantage.

Let her ride the TTR until it is obvious the bike is holding her back. Besides, you already own it. Use it up. Bought one for my nephew. He would rather play with the pad.... It just sits.

Clutches and stators are common failure components on KTM 50's especially the pre '08 models. I gave $120 for this '05 Pro Junior. Had about $700 in it all total. Would not pay any big money for any used 50cc race model.

Was happy to see this one leave the stable. Ran good, but labor intensive.

Yeah, just get her an 85. And she'll still be on it in 8 years.

Those TTRs looks awesome. She looks to fit it well, your set for awhile. Once she is ringing its neck you will know its time for a change, then you'll have a good looking pit bike you can cruise around the track and watch her. Or for the next one.

Great choice Tyler. How long have you been on your Suzuki RM85?

I feel instead of bringing any kind of 125 class back to pro racing, we should have a Suszuki 85 class. IMO

I know my 6 yo has been really putting in the time on his bike lately and no matter what bike he's riding the one biggest improvement I found that really helps him in controlling his bike (especially after a few laps) was switching his bars to the Pro Taper Micro bars. The grip diameter really helps with little hand fatigue and throttle control. It's kind of an investment but one he really noticed that helped his performance.

I would look for a nice KTM 50SX as they are hard to find and have it ready let her get used to sitting on it and she can ride it a little here there but still be able to jump back on the ttr to keep the fun factor and confidence high.
