The thing that always amazes me is how much the bikes age. We look at the bikes of today and they look cutting edge and I cannot personally imagine how the design is going to evolve massively and yet I did the same with those bikes back then.
Perhaps I lack imagination, but it's cool to see how things have moved on

Here's some fodder for your imagination: imagine this thing lighter, faster, cheaper and having won a national championship, The industrial buildings on Palomar Airport Road Blvd will be demolished and Carlsbad Raceway will reopen. Followed by Saddleback. The hills around San Elijo, Camp Pendleton, San Clemente, and all throughout North America will be open and accessible to motorcycles again.
Ok so I guess I know the sport is destined to go alternative energy. My point was more around the design. I remember getting a 1996 YZ125 and thinking it was the coolest looking thing in the world and yet now it would look so dated.
Ironically though, I wish I sold that bike like it was discarded meat and a used machine that wasn't of interest to me. Now, I wish I still had it!
Effortless Everts cooking along so damned smooth then along comes that little redhead just getting beat to shit from the track as he sets up for the pass. That raspy little 250 smoker taking it to that thumper warms the heart in the process. What displacement was Everts running those years?
Everts looked like he was on a trail ride. Been a long time since I saw any footage of him. Forgot how relaxed he rode. Well looked anyway. Meanwhile Carmicheal rode like a demon.

3 speed 450 he raced but that was the year he rode the 250 group as well they changed the rules the next year
Was a great weekend ferry hurt his knee or ankle on the sat Ryno was on a ktm 450 after racing the 125 all year.
Ferry crashed big on the last race on the pit straight was nasty .
Rc was just the man I hung over the fence with my mouth open clapping as he went by hammering the smoker into them deep ruts with no care and miles upon miles of skill.
Man its amazing how effortless Everts makes riding look.
Carmichaels interview was good too. Basically insert any of Ricky bobbys victory speeches
The Shop
Reminds me of when that photographer, on his way to talk to GuyB, ran across the track at Lakewood in '12 and caused JS7 to crash.

I remember after the first title of S72, he had a teeshirt "no more number 2". In fact, it has always been number two.
At Zolder, S72 had a four-stroke and Ricky a two-stroke on a sandy track...
Rc, definitely the GOAT.
Paraphrasing:
"My team blew it, but I personally just spanked everyone and showed I'm the best. Period."
Pit Row
This race was so hyped up back in the day, RC was awesome on the 2 stroke vs Everts on 4 stroke
Fonseca rode for the US?
