The rumors in the other thread proved to be true. This PR just landed in my in box.

MONSTER ENERGY FIM MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS IN GLEN HELEN CANCELLED

MONACO (Principality of Monaco), 27 September 2016 - Mr Giuseppe Luongo, Youthstream President, and Mr Bud Felkamp, President of the Glen Helen Raceway, had a meeting at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Maggiora and in common agreement they have decided to not organize the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Glen Helen in 2017.

Glen Helen Raceway and Youthstream have worked in close cooperation over the last 2 years and both entities have invested serious funds for the organization of the MXGP of USA but despite the quality of the organization, the excellent racing and the massive media coverage the fan attendance was much lower than expected and also much lower than what this event deserves.

For such a prestigious event which deserves and needs an outstanding fan participation the risk is too high, and this is the main reason why it has been decided in common agreement to not organize the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in 2017 in Glen Helen. If the situation changes in the future both parties would be keen to work together again.

I would say what a surprise......if this wasn't the 3rd time its happened to us So Cal moto fans. A MXDN pulls enough fans in Buds Creek and Thunder Valley.....but they don't think it will pull enough at Glen Helen? Bummer!!!

Passion for the sport is great but when you are talking about hundreds of thousands in risk, its a different matter.

Washougal or Red bud would be an awesome venue to relocate this event

For starters, I do believe that a MXdN race would draw quite a bit more attendance than a MXGP.

Also, if Luongo and his cronies would deliver what they promise, people might speak better of them. $400.00 for VIP access/passes at the MXdN in Colorado back in 2010 and they way under delivered for what was sold to us. An ill fated attempt after the fact of mailing out a defective DVD of the races didn't do much to smooth things over.

But, in the end this is a bummer. The MXdN was on my list of things to do next year.

Really sucks but can't say it surprises me, it's too bad the place doesn't get packed for that type of event.

Do they think it's too expensive for spectators to come over here and support their country?
It has to be George Bush's fault!

You mean the money Luongo would not get in to his bank account? Yes I agree, its a different matter.

Unadilla typically pulls the most fans during the Nationals right?

Well, as a shame it is, I can't blame them. In 2012 at Lommel the profit of only the first 10,000 sold tickets were promised to the organisation, maybe it was even less, can't remember correctly. Everything else (tickets, merchandising, food, drinks, sponsoring etc.) went mostly right into Luongo's pocket.

You have to be crazy nowadays to organise such an event under said circumstances, and preferably get some support from the government or you're done for.

What bullshit,I don't see how they can even base this off of attendance on the usgp. That race and series means nothing for most U.S. fans that's why no one shows up. The MxdN has been huge everytime it's been held in the U.S. I've been looking forward to going for several years now and planned on buying weekend passes and camping out and finally getting to take in the whole MXdN experience live and in person. I've been following their series the last couple years with a lot of interest and respect but that's coming to a screeching halt as of this moment fuck Loungo and all his bullshit. Way to attract the U.S. fanbase by stripping us of the one race we all take great pride in that we actually want to go to.

I think the poor turnout for the GP doesn't reflect what the MXoN would have been like! Having said that, I hope it stays in the USA! Bud's Creek had a great turnout on 07'. Colorado wasn't too shabby either!

It certainly won't help the attendance haha

Not even slightly surprised. This is the right decision looking at the precedent of non-AMA events held there.

It would seem US fans don't much care for anything beyond their borders, something I feel permeates far beyond just MX. Slowly become more alienated from the rest of the world.

Furthermore, BOTH championships had been sewn up by the time Glen Helen rolled around. A lot of attendance is going to be hindered by that.
