Looking to get back into the sport after about a 10 year break. Might have the ability to pick up a clean 2012 KTM 250 SXF. Looks like a nice bike that has a new top end including valves and around 50 to 70 hours. Seller's not sure on a price yet but said somewhere around $3000 and that he might be able to negotiate a little. Sorry no pictures. Something to think about, or not a good idea? Thanks in advance.

For 3000$ you can buy newer kawi's.
Bulletproofs bikes.
But if you really want the sxf, go for it.

Id want a really low hrs bike if i had 3k + or - to spend. Wait for a cleaner example would be my suggestion. An 8 yr old 250f with 70hrs is pretty far from ideal to me.

50-70 hours on the entire bike or just the top end? Thats kindof the kicker at the moment. If its on the top end then it likely needs rebuilt. If its the bike then its a no brainer to me.

Mmmh... how do you even believe the hours of a bike?
Here in italy every bike has 60 hours, whole engine rebuild.
Meh. I trust none.

Definitely don’t have my mind made up, but bikes seem a little hard to find in south east Michigan right now.

The only KTM I ever had was a 2012 and it had the worst suspension I have ever seen.

Find a better example, too much $ for that bike.

That is in my opinion a lot of money for a 2012 SXF. Unless the bike is a good spec with a lot of "goodies".

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. If he gets closer to $2500 would it be something to look at then? Would love to find something like that kx, but unfortunately not seeing anything like that around here at the moment. Originally wanted to find a 125 for around $2000 with a max of $2500, but can only find 20 year old bikes at that price point.

If youre going to spend $3000 on a new bike just save up a little more or finance the rest of a 2020 kx250f. I've gotten prices throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana.....etc for $5700. Oh and stay away from those older two stroke guys who lost their damn minds and want $7k for their clapped cr250s.

Get the newest, cleanest and least ridden you can afford. That is the best bike.

Nope.
From what I read here, I'm torn between an Alta and an ESR325 YZ.

I just sold my 13 with 14 hours. Talons, WMR motor work, Carbon goodies, vortex etc etc for $3900.
I would agree The 13 + is a better platform overall but 12’s seemed solid. Like said you could find a 20 hour 2015+ for $3000’ish.
Good luck!
