Found the part about lining up next to a teammate prettt interesting. Almost sounds like picking a shitty gate is preferred over one next to a teammate.

It's been like that for a while. They don't want teamates tangling off the start and ruining 2 chances for a good finish.

I would not want to line up next to a teammate either. Just in case.

Yeah, he said he knew he wasn't supposed to, but it was the only good gate left.

Sure, there are instances of teammates messing each other up but that can happen with anyone lining up next to you. As a racer, I'd want the best gate possible. RV always said "condition over position". Also, I'd feel more comfortable knowing a teammate is next to me acting as a buffer vs a rival or title opponent.
