Gaerne SG12 vs SG11

Looking for some advice, as I can get either black SG12's or white SG11's at a very similar price, switching from Instincts.
I'm leaning towards SG11's, as I always preferred the looks of white boots, but I have to admit those SG12's look pretty neat as well...
Did anyone try both? Chime in please

I can't speak for the SG11's, but I do like my SG12's. My only issue with them is that they do feel extra tight around my ankle. That's my only complaint. You get used to it, but they do squeeze quite a bit.

I have a pair of 11s I really like. They are a bit lighter than the 12s if that matters to you. I think they no longer sell them here in the U.S. of A. I also have some 10s that lasted a long time and would still be good with a sole repair. A friend of mine liked his 10s better than the 12s he currently has.

I had the 10's, 11's, and 12's. From what I remember the 11's fit more like the 10's. The ankle area had more room and Toe box seemed taller in 10 and 11. Had more foot room than the 12's. Both 10 and 11's are a single hinge. The 12's are a dual hinge and are the to me the ultimate in ankle protection. If you have small feet (not size wise) and feet are "skinny" may find the SG boots "roomy" (more so in 10 and 11) hence a lot of skinny feet guys prefer the Sidi which seem to cater small feet especially in the toe area. Between the 10 and 11 I'd go for the 11 if they fit your feet. But for me the 12 fit better, and offered more ankle support. Much more than any boot I've worn.

I actually like the instincts a lot, but need a new pair and wanted to try something else. I'm keeping my Instincts, they Just need some new hinges and I'll use them as a backup pair. They wil be rotated with Gaerne or Sidi if I can find a good deal on those.

I have the 11's and my son has the 12's. Not much difference at all.
My only beef is they run pretty big and I swim in my sz 10. really annoying until you ride and then dont notice.
I will prob go back to A stars.

Don't like my sg11's after wearing tech 8's for so long thought I'd give them a try. Got them on close out I liked them until I landed on the ball of my foot on the peg. With my toes pointed up slightly and leaning forward.

The boot transferred the hit right to my ankle it was sore the rest of the day. My tech 8's absorbed those impacts in stride, just glad it was the right ankle it happened to only. The sg11's lack the stiffness in that area where your ankle bends forwards.

The other thing on my right boot the rubber area around the hinge on the inside starting tearing around the hinge bolt and peeling up. I only wore them 6 - 7 times total the last time was when it hurt my ankle.

I went back to my tech 8's rather bummed cause I was really hoping to like them. Especially since they seem to get a lot of favorable reviews.

You can grab the toe box and fold the boot in half with very little force, like a tennis shoe. Try that with a SG12

as long as it is a stitched on welt sole (SG-10s, SG-11s, and SG-12s) you can use a sole from any brand of boot. So, if you cannot get the Gaerne soles, you can use one from a Sidi Crossfire TA or an Alps Tech 8, etc.
