Other than the forks being a little harsh, it's one of the best 450s you can buy - still.

MXA should have a test on it and some good setup tips.

JT$ or Pingree or one of those former racers from PulpMX raves about that exact model year bike. He insists that was one of the greatest 450's made.

To eliminate the fork harshness, remove all the duplicate shims in the LSC stack so that you have a linearly descending stack from 30 down to 18. Pull 1 of the 20x0.1mm shims from the mid valve. Start with 375cc oil volume. Should be winning races in no time.

Still have mine as well, love it! Forks needed to be sent away, but that was it.

Thanks slatermx got a killer deal on it 2. I traded all my rc cars and tools and high end radio etc that was just collecting dust from 2 years ago for it.

Bought it from second owner and he had it sitting in his garage for 2 years and bike was bought in 09.

I love mine. Bought it new in late 08' for under 6 grand OTD. Came close to buying a new bike recently but just couldn't justy 10 grand on something that wasn't going to be much (if at all) better suited for me.

Mickolobe.....I actually just sold my 08' CRF450 about 3 weeks ago. I bought it brand new ( hillsboro Honda found it in the back of the shop in Dec 2010 ). I had a lot of fun on that bike....and it was the bike that helped me get back into this sport after taking almost 6yrs off from a bad injury.

If you do anything ( and I mean anything! ).......put every dime you can into the suspension! That is the ONLY thing that holds that bike back. I never did and I regret the 3yrs I rode it.....because it bounced around all over the place. If I would of put some serious coin into the suspension...I could have gotten it to work a lot better.

I can tell you though....since it was the last year of the carbed CRF.....the damn thing will pull hard from bottom to top! Awesome motor! Never have I ever felt so comfortable coming out of a really swapped out , rutted corner....hammering the throttle and seat bouncing some big hairy double......The Honda was great at it!

I switched up to a 2012 KXF450 just a few weeks ago.....and since I raced Kawi's for 20yrs +......I really feel at home on it.....and I actually like the Kawi better. BUT.....for an 08'......You will have a lot of fun on that bike man! Great bike! But trust me on the suspension thing.......get it working good for you!

BTW,.....that's a clean looking CRF!

OH...and one more thing. Keep up on the air filter and oil changes. The way the airbox is designed....it really likes to coat the bottom 1/2 of the filter pretty good. It comes in from the big breather hole in the bottom of the air box. And a typical CRF likes to burn the hell out of the oil on the motor side. I got in a rythem of changing my tranny oil every other time I changed my motor oil. The motor oil on mine got changed out about ever 2 - 2.5hrs. One more thing....since the front forks work the oil pretty hard.....they seem to heat the oil up and make them kind of sloppy. Get yourself a set of the factory connection air bleeders , so you can pull back on the forks and bleed the air out between motos.

That's the scariest bike I have ever ridden. It hits like a 2 stroke except all over

Thanks Jeffro for all your info! That is good to hear I am so happy I got it!. The forks and rear shock was just done for a 185lb rider and I'm about 210 6'1'. I hope to lose some wait now that I'm getting back in to racing you thing I should have it redone? He had the top end and suspension done about 2.5 yrs ago with 15 hrs and its been sitting in the guys garage almost 2 years with out even be fired up. Thanks again

I wouldn't worry about it right off the bat. Go find a couple rough tracks to ride and see what it feels like first and then go from there. Sometimes you can get away with just changing the fluid levels in the front forks. One thing I learned on those forks was that the " Mid valve " needed to be totally taken out of the equation. Very harsh mid-stroke and the cure was to just completely remove the mid valve. It got to the point of when I dove real hard into a rutted corner with braking bumps before and acceleration bumps after.....it was hard to even hold on to the bars.

See what it feels like , figure out what it;s doing that you may not like and then find a good suspension guy to help work through those issues. Overall....you will end up loving that bike. The 2008 CRF 450 was one of the best bikes ever made.....and when certain threads pop up on this site asking " What was your favorite bike ? ".......that bike pops up a lot.

Have fun.

I have a really nice one for sale, if anyone is interested. It's a great bike, I'm not even sure why I bought a new one.

I'd be interested in the bike Langham, but your gonna have to throw in some more little red anodized bits. The 148 pieces you have on there just isn't enough to make the bike competitive. I'm sure it does just fine on an MX track, but I wouldn't dare race a bike that hadn't yet reached full garage queen status.

Langhammx,
How do you like the ENZO suspension?
I'm trying to decide between ENZO and FC
To revalve my 08 CRF450.

Langhammx......is that stock suspension with coatings or is that true "kit" suspension? What are you thinking of asking for the ride :-)?

Ok here is what you do.
1). Kick it twice, it will always start.
2). Shift out of neutral and go.
3). Best stock bike you can buy in the last 2 decades.

Micolobe7-
Sorry to derail your thread, you bought a great bike. I bought mine, thinking it would be the last MX bike I would ever own. I bought a KTM EXC500 dual sport and really liked the bike, even on the track. So rather than getting used to the Honda, every time I go to the track, I decided to buy a KTM SX-F450. I have no need for the Honda now, but it's going yo be a tough sell.

The forks are a little harsh on the '08, but ENZO did a great job with mine.

ENZO did a great job, the harder I ride the bike, the better it works. It's set up for a Vet Int. MX
