This is my opinion only but it has seemed to me that with fuel injection and the quick and easy response has cause more riders on 450’s to experience whisky throttle.
I think from all skill levels this has occurred more than when they were carbureted.
What’s your opinion? It could be I’m just old.

The lag from carbs caused more people to crash in my opinion..

whiskey throttle happens on carb and efi bikes.. I’ve whiskey’d after a mistake on both styles..

Rather run the chance of whiskey throttle than bog on the face of a triple

You’re just old. Not only does fuel injection prevent bogging on jump faces, but it allows for much more precise tuning of the power delivery.

People only whiskey throttle because they have arm pump or are a new rider freezing up in the moment of something sketchy. Normally you'll run out of talent in other ways not so much with whiskey throttle.

Whiskey throttle is 100% user error, no blame can be put on efi

My only instances of true whiskey throttle were on 2 strokes, hitting the pipe at just the wrong time and not being able to untwist the throttle. Cue Brandon's first race. I'm not sure I've ever whiskey throttled a 4 stroke?

Not whiskey throttle, but startling, yes. The combination of instant acceleration and massive, mind-boggling engine braking makes for a pretty jerky ride sometimes.

the vast majority of 450 riders would benefit from a smaller engine. 350 all day everyday here. yes you and whiskey it too, but not as easy.

Like most guys have mentioned, I voted no. If you are going to whiskey throttle, it's going to happen regardless of if your bike is EFI. And I agree with whoever mentioned that the carb bog has probably caused more crashed than anything due to efi response. I also think that once you get used to an EFI bike (which seems to only take a couple laps at most), then it's hard to go back w/o noticing.

He, He I get wheel chatter on my 450 some times. It took a few years to get the raw performance back when they went EFI but now there is no going back.

I dont see a downside. Only positives. No jetting required for temp changes or elevation changes. How can you not like adjusting your bikes power delivery via an app on your phone?

I can safely say that almost every instance of whiskey throttle I've had in the 10 years of EFI 4 strokes being around, has been when I ride 2 strokes.

I think the tip in throttle response on efi is a step backwards from carbs. The initial 0-5% throttle input is always so jerky on efi bikes that for my style it is a negative.

Besides that they run better and consistently better. But that initial opening is a huge issue for my style and lack of speed.

Shit....even a bog on a tabletop can be disastrous! Back in Feb of 2009 is was riding my 2007 CRF250 and thought I had the bog dialed out of the bike bec it hadn't done it in a WHILE.....lo and behold, there was a BIG 3rd tapped 4th on the throttle gapped double. I had been jumping it all day and ONE TIME down the straight before the jump my bike quickly stepped out JUST before the face so I let off for a split second and hammed the throttle just before to get over the jump and that day was the last time I ever rode a 4 stroke....... the bike bogged just long enough to throw the bike into an endo and the engine recovered in the air but it was too late for me, I landed on my head, bike still between my legs, broke my sternum, dislocated my shoulder and broke 3 vertebrae losing feeling for about 5mins which felt like an eternity.

I agree, the bog is farrrrrrrrr worse than whiskey throttle. I do believe that 450's are too much bike and if the mfg's would all agree to a lower displacement of say, 400cc's they could still get all the HP needed with the technological advances the bikes have made AND spark a little more R&D into the bikes in the name of HP. I think a 400 would be a much better SX & MX bike. Lighter, less inertia, factory bikes could actually benefit from some engine work instead of working counter productively to smooth out the power of a 450 race bike to make it more rideable.

Do you hammer the throttle like a 2 stroke like I do? My riding style makes 450's hazardous to my health bec I've grown up ham fisting the throttle ala 2 stroke riding style.

Proven by the fact that is is being discussed in both fuel delivery systems.

It's not an EFI problem it's a 450 problem 99.9% of people don't need one.

Way too many people on 450s shouldn’t be on 450s to begin with.
