Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto will not defend his AMA Motocross title in 2012 after injuring his knee at the Seattle supercross on Saturday night. The two-time AMA Supercross and defending AMA Motocross champion will undergo surgery on his knee this week.

“I’m pretty disappointed right now,” said Villopoto. “I have trained hard for this season and even though I won the supercross title, I really wanted to defend my outdoor championship. I’ve been through injury before and I know how hard I have to work to get back.”

Villopoto is coming off of a dominant 16 months where the Poulsbo, Wash. native earned two AMA Supercross titles on the strength of 15 wins, the AMA Motocross Championship with three wins and also the richest payday in supercross with a million dollar win at the Monster Energy Cup.

I was so stoked as a fan back in December about the 2012 season. I sure didn't see it going down like this.

Could be Stewarts last chance for a title. But I don't think Dungey would let him have it.

If Stewart doesn't race... that leaves..ohh..umm.... Dungey with a repeat of 2010. No chad, bubbles, poto. My dick is so soft right now I think it just went inverted.

They always do that, I called it when it happened. Said watch, they are going to hurry him to the back , which is what is mechanic did. They do not want possible competition knowing you have an injury.

Makes no difference now of course, but it could have.

Just...freaking...damn.
I contemplated flying to one of the outdoor rounds with my son this summer since he's never seen a national, but I'll be damned if I'm going to spend that kind of money when all of the top stars are sitting on the sidelines. Hell, even the damn replacement riders (Townley) can't stay health long enough to make it to the outdoors. Finding it hard to give a sh*t about the 450 season now.

Trust me when I say, GO TO A NATIONAL, I like seeing the stars but they are not a driving force when I go. TRUE MX is outdoors and you will have a blast no matter which "stars" show up. And the speed these riders go is mind blowing if you have never been. Sell the SX tickets, save some cash and do what ever it takes to go to the closest national. And if you want to one up that experience, pack up the bikes and stay an extra day and race the amateur day. Best weekend you'll have in MX.

It's crazy, all the ballsy risks he took this season and the small crash wiped him out. The moto Gods are cruel.
