Holy cow is this thing beautiful, and rare. If someone know you to link it better, feel free.

Wow that seems expensive, but I have no idea.

So Brad owns it, but apparently it wasn't his bike? He rode 500's in the GP's. Not sure what the #7 represents, that was Jim Gibson's number in '81. The gold anodizing and rear fender and Uni Track really make that bike visually unique. I owned an '80 & '81 model, my last years with a Pro license so they are special to me, I ran Fox Forks and an AMP link before I blew up my knee, which I just had cortisone shots for yesterday and they are still hanging in there.

Probably raced it in the Trans AMA series. I think they switched to 250s by then.

Pretty sure 250's were always a support class in Trans AMA, International was always Open class. If that bike was a 500 it would be worth more coming from Brad.

If it was 81' then it was the Trans USA and I think the format changed to 250's. That being said, I don't remember Lacky running the Trans USA. 250 USGP bike? But like Uncle Tony said, BL was on Suzuki in 81'.

The description is worded really strange, but if I'm reading it correctly, they aren't saying this is Brad's bike, they're saying Kawi's MX history began when he won the 500 national c-ship in '72. The seller is definitely name dropping to increase the sale price, but it doesn't look like he's claiming it belonged to anyone famous.

It’s a nice bike for sure, but I’m suspicious

Looks to me like it's Brad's but not one he raced.

it say's from the Brad Lackey collection and that it was possibly 1 of 3 bikes imported or maybe a replica of one of those that wasn't clear.

Contact email was Brads.

I agree, the listing and description is a little hard to understand.

Yeah. I’m pretty sure it is an ‘82. I think kawi started ‘82 on aircooled bikes but switched to water pumpers on the 250 even before Supercross ended. They let 2nd tier riders continue to use the defunct air cooled bikes.
I don’t know why, but I can remember the pics in mxa. Remember they always used to have pics of the new works bikes back then. I used to absorb every minute detail.

Kawasaki had liquid cooled and air cooled works bikes in 82. I saved these pics of Howerton (3) and Benolkin's (17) 1982 SR250's. Looks like the real thing, but the no.7 is freaking everyone out. That and it belonging to Lackey but not being one of his race bikes as he was with Suzuki winning a FIM world championship on a RN500 in 1982.

I love the Kawasaki works bikes from that era. Where the Honda's were super trick and almost too well finished, the Kawi's looked almost cobbled together. It'll never happen, but how cool would it be to gather a works 250 from each of the 'big four' from a year between 78 and 83 and do a shootout? Sure, the Honda's would probably win, but it'd be interesting to see how close the other brands were. Or, how far....

Picture I took at Unadilla Trans-USA in 1980. I think this might be that 250.

Yeah that's the bike I was thinking of. Forgot it was liquid cooled and that he was racing Suzukis by 81.

Lackey was on a Suzuki in 81 - some will remember that Suzuki tried to 'jettison' him at the end of that year, but he had , it appears, to have negotiated his contract to make it very difficult / expensive for them to do the 'dirty' on him. Yet, he got them the World Championships in 82.......... classic, whilst Suzuki still were f**king him and Steve Stavetsky ( spelling, and correct bloke?) around, throughout the year.

Lackey was on Kawasakis , as late as 1980, as others have said.

What I like is seeing the differences through the actual seasons in bikes, within Teams. Blokes liking Liquid Cooling, blokes not liking / being wary of Liquid Cooling, preferences for brake types, and combinations of them, suspension- Conventionals vs USDs, and so many other things.

Laporte, for example, ran the Powervalved , Aircooled engine in his OW, during his 82 World Championship season, instead of the Liquid Cooled . I think he might have run both types, in 83 when Jobe beat him?
