Freestylers on a MX track

Edited Date/Time 9/4/2018 12:51am
I watched a video of Twitch and Hanny and a few other guys on a MX track and they seemed to be riding pretty well, it’s always hard to tell from a video.
Has anyone seen guys like this in person riding? How is their pace? You can see they all have amazing bike skills.

Regardless of what he does more of now, Hanny made his name as a racer.

Ah totally, I was more implying the guys seem to be running with Hanny - not sure how much Hard he was going..

Most of the older freestyle guys started as serious racers, possibly now days you get guys that have grown up riding purely freestyle.

If you wanted to get a good idea on how freestyle guys stack up to a pro racer, watch the speed and style event from X-games a while back that Pastrana was in. I would say most top of the food chain fmx guys would probably do well locally in the B or A class.

Slightly off topic but it always annoys me when they do a slightly off axis backflip and call it a 360 like Nate did in that video.

Hanny absolutely rips on our local tracks here in SoCal, and makes it look effortless. Watching him ride at Cahuilla is a treat. Guys like Deegan and Twitch aren't nearly as fast, but they rip too.

This is the kinda answer I was after, in videos it looks like Twitch etc are flying out there

Also off topic a bit but wasn’t that the event where twitch missed a gear going up the ramp and went down pretty hard? That was one of those crashes that always stuck out to me

Bereman has made 3 250 main events. 16th being his best result in 2013.

Axell also grew up racing and went freeriding when racing didn’t work out

Deegan was a SERIOUS badass in mx and sx.

I wonder who was a bigger prospect, him or Hanny?

OK. Just reviewed Deegan’s mx results. Barely anything there. I remembered him being an up an coming prospect. I guess he concentrated more on Sx?

Hansen tied Langston in points during 2005 125 East (with the title going to GL). I'd say multiple 125/250F class victories, on both coasts, gives JH100 the nod!

Sorta related but maybe not. Guy showed up on practice day and parked next to us. Had a oversized tank and metal bark busters. Asked if I would let him pace me since he had never hit a big jump before. He paced me alright, then three laps later had half tracked me. I asked him later if was yanking my chain and he was actually a gncc racer and adapted to the jumps and ruts instantly it seemed. By the end of the day everyone was setting around watching and talking about this guy. It was around 2010 and he was on a yama dog 426 or some shit. Talent is talent! The cats bike wouldn't even kick start, he rolled bump start each time.

Lol wow freestyle can really be a joke sometimes. Wtf is that. You race... meanwhile that one guy is throwing boner airs off the jumps, but while racing you do some nac nac's n shit lol. Come on either do freestyle or race this is garbage. How do you even win this? What if the guy fartin around doin boner airs way in the back pulls off way better tricks? Then what...

Agreed I never understood that. Its a leaned to the side backflip.... A 360 is when you go off the jump while doing a major whip... and keep going until it spins all the way around instead of pulling it back. Some people actually can do 360's and thats a disservice to them who are doing a trick thats 257 times harder.

I've seen Twitch ride Cahuilla Creek MX years ago and he definitely has moto skills. Also have seen Todd Potter and Levi Sherwood ride there, and the same can be said about both of them.

Forgot that I saw Deegan keeping pace with Scott Champion at Pala years ago... that one surprised me.

I meant as an amateur. Who was more highly thought of before they turned pros?

I agree with you regarding Hanny as a pro in supercross. He had awesome speed and style.

Ha! Yes, Pastrana was pretty good too. Can’t believe the guy is still upright, given all of his injuries. He is one tough mofo.

Yeah but I read un another thread that he wasn’t talented enough to win races.

I remember seeing Deegan try to qualify for a National in 07 at hangtown. If you’re trying to qualify for that, you’re one bad dude on a track..

Pastrana obviously wasn't very good because his number was 199.

It seems like Twitch is enjoying his money he made during the peak freestyle years. Just riding every day with some friends. Good to see.
