wait, Fox is making Star Wars gear?

That could be extremely cool or terribly lame as long as the Jar Jar gear never makes it to production...

Curious to see how this gear collaboration will work out. I'm sure Fox will knock it out of the park with some very cool, tasteful gear designs and it will be a good seller for them.

BUT...am I the only one who thinks the Star Wars license-whoring is getting a bit out of control? I'm far from a Star Wars super fan as I was just never into the sci-fi stuff growing up, but I still see it as a very cool and iconic brand. That's where I am worried that the mass introduction of co-branded and licensed "stuff" is getting out of control and may negatively affect the Star Wars franchise? Lucas Films was famously protective of the Star Wars brand ever since it's inception (similar to how Red Bull is with their logo and trademarks). Butafter Disney bought the franchise a few years back I have seen All SORTS of various products with Star Wars licensing and co-branding.

perhaps it's because I have spent the better part of the past year and a half working on a project with Star Wars and Hot Wheels so I am noticing it more? I dunno.... random thoughts by me....

I think it is part of a bigger marketing strategy for the upcoming Star Wars films more than it is about licensing stuff forever. But even with that in mind, yes, it does take part of the specialness away from it.

This had better not be a horrible joke. If it is I will execute order 66 upon those responsible.

Saw a few pictures of the helmet, looks awesome but the price tag will have you thinking other wise.

Lucas has always been a whore for merchandising Star Wars. Most of his staff on Return of the Jedi even felt that he ruined the plot just for toy sales.
