I'm looking to buy a new helmet and I have these two options available. The SM5 seems to have a better build, but it doesnt have MIPS. Which one would you guys get?

(I live in Brazil and there's not a lot of options to choose from. These are the only two "premium" models being sold)

I got to try a SM5 a few weeks ago and for the price point, it is a truly impressive helmet. It still has a "MIPS like" interior that is supposed to have the same effect as a traditional MIPS liner.

Some of the mid range helmet are actually pretty good these days. I'm sure the Fox V2 is also good, it has the Fluid inside tech?

See if you can try both first. I normally wear Arai and Airoh, and tried an SM5 recently. The SM5 really didn't fit my head shape at all but the others mentioned fit perfectly

Definitely try on the SM5 before buying. I have the SM10 and like it but the SM5 seemed to have a lot of weird spots that put pressure on my head. It isn't very comfortable for me compared to the SM10/SM08 and the Fly helmets. SM5 is very light and I am a big fan of light helmets.

The V2 is comfortable. So much so I sold my V3 (Fluid Inside version) because it didn't feel nearly as comfortable as the V2. Chad Reed didn't want to run the V3 for the same reason and used the V2. Can't speak for the SM5 though, but looks like a nice helmet.

Interesting. I just bought that helmet, i'll use it as a DH helmet. The one thing that is slightly annoying is that the Fluid Inside pads are just way too noticeable, especially the big ones at the back of the head and on top of the head. I remember Klinger mentioning the same thing in his Vital review.

But otherwise it seems great!

Fox dropped the Fluid inside tech for 2021, so the V1, V2 and V3 RS are all using MIPS now

So that’s why he ran the V2, Kenny ran the V2 at redbull straight rhythm too when the new V3 came out

Fwiw, the new RS v3 with MIPS fits incredible for me. Like others have noted, the previous fluid inside version of the V3 kind of fit funny and many people preferred the V2 (myself included). However, I just got a new 2021 v3 RS with MIPS and it is the best fitting helmet I've ever owned. I can't stress how different the 2021 is versus the 2020.
