With Glen Helen out this year....what're everyone's thoughts on Pala? I've never been to a race there, but I've seen it on TV a while back. Seems like a cool track. Do you like it better or worse than GH?

Just track, I think GH is way better. Hills and mx just go together.

See, that's what I was afraid of. I hated back in 2013 when they went to Lake Elsinore....and this track doesn't look much better.

Way bummed.

Still going to go, obviously...but lame.

Traffic issues getting in and out. Viewing issues once inside.

GH does better on the traffic side and far better on the viewing side.

I'm riding at Fox/Pal at the moment. They built up the little hill at the east end of the track. They put in some big jumps as well. It will be fine for the national racing and TV. As for viewing it sucks. Your watching motocross in a flat parking lot. There is no elevation to watch from. I don't beleive you will be able to get very close to the track and will be watching from behind the fence that separates the track from the parking lot. Elsinore was terrible for viewing and it had a lot more access. Getting in and out of Pala is a two lane winding road that comes in from the I15. To the east of the track are mountains and county back roads. You can go that way but it's a very long drive to get back to San Diego, Riverside or LA. Parking may be an issue as well. I would plan to start to the track very early and plan for a very long time getting out.

Yikes. Yea...I was super disappointed with Lake Elsinore from a spectator perspective. No shade and pretty crappy viewing areas....sounds like more of the same at Pala.

Man....maybe I do sit this one out and just make the weekend trip up to Hangtown this year.

Guys wait to judge it until after it’s over. I am hoping they have a great race and great turnout. All this prejudging could hurt attendance. I think changing tracks is good for the sport it allows others to get to experience the work it takes to have one.
It could turn out to be one of the best Nationals of this year and you missed it because You prejudged it.
Go and enjoy.

You guys that think viewing sucks probably haven't been there. One whole side of the track has an elevated bank. One side is on a big hill, they both look dierectly down on the track. You can see every part of the track from certain spots. Pala Is way better than going to San Bernadino. I think people are going to be suprised. But I don't have any idea how they are going to be ready in three weeks, they have a lot of work to do.

Well guy's -- it's NOT at Glen Helen this year! Go and enjoy it for what it is! National MX with all the top pro's! I personally had NO problems getting IN/OUT from the freeway the 2 years that Pala had it. Just plan on getting there 8;00-8;30 when practice is starting. The people who had problems were the guys who thought they could just show up at 12;00 and be trackside at 1:00! And , for what it's worth -- Glen Helen ALWAYS has epic traffic problems getting out of their GD parking lot too! I've had it take 3 hours + at times to get from the parking lot to the freeway, after the GH national....The Fox/Pala track has good dirt and will be prepped fantastically for the national, and viewing is way better than that POS Elsinore track. Have fun , you bunch of cry babies! LOL!

When I went to Pala I got there at 8:00 am and had no problem getting in. The problem came when I tried to leave after the last Moto. Then the traffic was terrible. If you are smart enough to know where to park at Glen Helen then traffic is not a problem. Just park by the amphitheater and walk in. No traffic coming and going mxracer666. At Glen Helen, I can always see most of the track, good luck with that at Pala. Elsinore was a total POS.

I get that it's a big loss for the series but do literally none of you know the back story behind why they're dumping GH?

This has been coming for a long time and I'm sure the promoters are just fucking done with the GH owners. After the shit they pulled with the VIP in the victory circle, I don't blame them.

Listen to Matthes, Weege, or JT talk about that round. They're done with their price gouging and shitty attitude and I don't blame them. The blame just should not fall on DC, the fact that they've put up with those owners for this long is a testament to their patience if anything.

Those good spots will be for VIP. I don't have that kind of money to drop for an okay viewing spot. I'd rather make the drive to Hangtown than go to Pala.

Glen Helen is like dating the Super Hot crazy chick, it's awesome when you are riding but the drama will kill you.

That’s what I’m doing. Driving to my buddies new house on Friday in Prather, hitting up a Indian casino Friday night. Then heading up to Hangtown Saturday morning. I’ve been to so many epic races at Hangtown and Glen Helen, haven’t seen one at Pala yet. Was thinking next year I’ll try to reserve a room or camp and give Pala a try.

As a Euro watching GH is the nationals!! What can beat all those bikes going into Talledaga turn? Then those hills. Sadly I do agree with comments about stupid big jumps, why come up with something creative to really challenge every rider - off cambers etc

I've been to Pala a hundred times. Viewing a race there sucks. The little bank along the back of the track and the little hill on the east end offer very poor viewing. Glen Helen offered spectacular viewing due to the valley and hills. I have nothing against Pala and I appreciate having the track there to ride on. As I said the track will be fine for racing the nation and TV viewing. I've been to both Elsinore and Pala. Viewing is not good. Pala didnt have access to the track for close up viewing in the past. Everyone was standing behind the fence that separates the track and parking lot. Think about watching a sporting event from an elevated seat in a stadium and then trying to watch from field level 50' away. I'm not telling anyone not to go and have a good time. I'm just starting what has been encountered in the past at the "Parking lot tracks". Glenn Helen is one of the most famous and prestigious tracks in the world. Pala is a huge step down. That said it is not happening this year so Pala is what we have. I'll be watching on my 65" TV.

DC, so you are saying that GH agreed to hold the nationals for the next 5 years without even seeing a contract?

Did GH ever ask on multiple occasions for a copy of the new contract prior to MXS releasing the schedule?

Did GH immediately contact MXS after releasing the schedule asking to suspend any future publishing of the schedule since MXS had yet to send a contract?

How exactly does a business agree to have an event when they aren't even allowed to see what they are agreeing to? Then you publish the schedule without GH's agreement, then try to say GH canceled it because they ultimately didn't agree to the terms of the agreement that they were never allowed to see?

GH was the one who asked not to continue to publish the schedule because GH didn't want the public to be mislead into thinking a national would be hosted again since GH had concerns about some specific clauses of the contract.

How can you have questions about a specific clause in a contract you claim to have never read?

Play Victim all you want, Bud was never going to 100% comply and now Tom White is gone nobody is there to keep the peace.

Are you serious? It was the EXACT SAME CONTRACT as before. They had it for five years, and yes, they agreed to five more years. Lori (the person we have dealt with -- and enjoyed working with -- for all of these years) agreed to the extension and the terms. No one kept them from seeing anything, we just wanted to announce at the MXON at RedBud and we did. Lori was even there.

But then three weeks after the 2019 schedule announcement, Bud changed his mind and wanted radically different contract terms. If we could not agree he said "take us off the schedule." So we did. And we moved on.

It's pretty much guaranteed that the best spots will be VIP. They are at Hangtown and were at GH. I'd be very surprised it they weren't at Pala.
