I don't want to speculate too much, but after watching the Reed crash for the 100th time it's becoming obvious that his boots hooked on his footpeg somehow and basically wrapped his leg around the bike. I've never seen a crash like that before and people go over the bars pretty often. Is there something unique or different on the inside of the new Instinct boots compared to Gaernes or Astars that may have factored into Reed's leg getting caught? Has anyone else thought about this or am I just crazy?

I really doubt that he boots had anything to do with it. Just a one in a million type thing.

It looked to me that his heel became wedged between the peg and shifter..

Yeah... you're probably right. Just seemed like a really peculiar looking crash. I've just never seen someone get their leg hooked like that before.

I give CR credit, he held on to that pony with everything he had. We have seen alot of guys in the past that would have just stepped off to get away from the bike. It would have been a 1 in a million shot at saving that one, but he was riding it out regardless.....

You're not crazy. That was one of the first things that went through my head when watching the crash live. After checking out some pictures of the boot though, I don't really see anything that stands out. Just a freak thing I think.

Did CRs pegs get hooked in the hinge? Those footpegs are pretty sharp toothed.

I don't think he was riding it out by choice. It looked like his boot got hung up just as he entered the first whoops.
It kept him from sliding his weight back to prepare for the whoops. I think that's why he endoed and went down stuck to the bike. No other reason why he wouldn't have separated from it.

Maybe it's the POS Honda's fault for having sharp pegs made of metal?

2 that. Just my though as well. I tried to pause the vid to see if there was any damage to his boot that could explain it? I though, crap, this is NOT good thing for promoting the new Fox boots...

Yep, this is why you don't put hinges on the outside of the boot.

Looks to me like the bike snagged his boot as it was flipping back forward after he initially hit the ground. You can see it if you start watching at the 10:03 mark.
