I thought he has a Factory Kawi 450 ride waiting after next year? Who is his trainer? Does Mitch have a program like STAR does with Swanny and KTM/Husky has with Aldon?

I don’t know anything, just what I read here and listen to on my phone.
What podcast, I’d really be interested in hearing it. I know his original contract was pretty lucrative with a 450 tryout if he titled out of 250s, but that was 3 years ago.

"forkner told Mitch it was hot, so he had to pace himself. Not something you want to tell the PC boss."

I am sure Mitch would rather see him lead for 5 laps then drop the anchor. What he did goes against everything Mitch stands for. I can't see this ending well for Austin but it would be great if he can turn things around. Having him in the mix makes for more entertaining racing.

Forkner dropped about 3 or 4 seconds between the start and end of the second moto at lakewood, about the same as the top finishers. His speed was way off the leaders though.

Forkner will turn it around. It's been two races after a tough injury. He will get back up to speed and start being in the conversation soon imo. He's got too much raw speed to think otherwise. New bike for outdoors as well. The guy is amazingly fast and they always say they can work with speed.

I don't really see any good outcome in this situation. AF either stays where he is now (very far behind expected pace) or he races himself into shape, which basically proves he went into this season unprepared while having the most time out of the presumed frontrunners to be prepared.

I mean it's not only the fact that he isn't in a good shape, he has a big lack of speed.

R1 he had the 19th fastest lap which was a 2.16 compared to a 2.10 for Hampshire. It was a 5.6 seconds gap.

R2 he had a 2.17 compared to a 2.12 for Jett, about 5 sec a lap.

He really need to turn it up...
He needs two turnips in heat

I don't know why people expected Forkner to be an title contender outdoors immediately. The last time he raced outdoors was 2018 (yes, that's 3 years ago) and even then apart from 2-3 races he hasn't shown any winning speed. On top of that he had some really bad injuries in the meantime. Having 4 months of solo preparation is nothing compared to actual racing. He needs time now.
Hope he can come back stronger or make a full season soon. He might not be a fan favorite, but the races are for sure more exciting with him.

When you get paid to win and cash the checks, there are no free passes. Especially when the "Free Guy" is beating you.

I like how most people here just breeze past the fact that he lost 1/3 of his pancreas. When that injury happened last year, I wondered how it would affect him long term. Insulin, digestive enzymes. The kid might be training properly and doing the work and his body might not be able to adapt. It may take him some time to adapt diet and training IF he has any issues with digestion and absorption.

I don't know shit from shit about his situation personally, but let's not all assume he's 100% capable of being at peak fitness.

EDIT: Also very plausible the issues are 'gina related.

I agree, but at the same time I would think he would be upfront with Mitch. If Mitch knows he's putting in the work but struggling due to the injury, I can't see him getting "pissed" after only his 2nd race back. I definitely can't see him getting so pissed he shares it with the media on the record.

I wish the like buttons had a laughing option. Sometimes I like stuff b/c I think it's funny, sometimes b/c I agree with it. But the laughing could be I just find it funny, not agree or disagree.

I've never cared for Forkner. Fast as hell, but never gonna put it together. What was it, two years ago he was the cream of the crop? But he kept having to win practice doing cartwheels? While he could have in fact won the championship hands down just keeping rubber down? Is that the year he effed his organs up? I don't even remember.

Sometimes I think the same thing about AC. But at least AC is humble as well as respectful to all.

I could care less if Spork ever gets any title, but I still hold hopes of AC getting it figured out and getting a 4fiddy supie title. In both cases, Mitch's ability to believe in his riders and give them a chance.. You can't question his willingness to have their back from all the interviews I've heard him on. But at some point, the dude does have to call BS and be the boss. If he's not happy with Forkner, then good for him. If Austin has some left over issues and hasn't made that clear to Mitch, then he messed up. Or.. maybe TM(atthes)Z is just trying to work folks up with wordplay. He's as good as that as Kenny has been these opening rounds!

Uhhhh....wasn't his recent injury just a broken collarbone? Hardly serious by MX standards.....

He's quite aways out from the serious injury at this point to be dropping anchor line a container ship outside LA Harbor....

It was a broken collarbone but Austin is less than a year out from a major internal injury. Moreover, he has raced exactly 4 races since that major injury. Before that, he had to recover from a major knee surgery that kept him out for the entire outdoor season. That's a lot of vital track time missed, a lot of experience to gain and a lot of recovery time. It has had to take a toll on him not only physically but mentally as well. Sometimes the mental side is the most challenging recovery. Maybe he's not willing to hang it out just yet due to all the injuries and recovery. Only Austin can answer that. His talent on a motorcycle is undeniable, hopefully he turns it around soon. Racing is better when riders like him aren't struggling.

Roczen came back to 450 class after his injuries and was close to winning right away. I think Austin is just focused on the fame an women too much and not titles.

Forkner has shown big speed on smoother supercross tracks. Gnarly rutted tracks separate the hard core experienced MX’ers from the supercross specialists. I don’t expect much from him outdoors at the more challenging tracks, but getting tired is not what you expect from a factory rider. However Roczen was challenged outdoors, skipped a year, and now he’s doing great.

This wins the internet this week.

I like Mitch, he is the backbone of the sport, and has been for years, when you look at the guys who came up through PC over the years, you have to wonder what is going on recently.

Its fair to say that AC being made of chalk meant that he never got to deliver what he should have, but you have to say , the current crop are poor by past standards.

McAdoo looked promising, but i think the pressure got to him.. i loved the fact he wasnt a top line kid , and came through the hard way , and 'earned' his shot , and was never touted as the 'next big thing' as a kid, a bit like Savatgy, you have to think that if Osborne hadnt wiped him out , or had gone dowm in Vegas PC would have had a title and the rot would have stopped earlier.

In europe,he would be nonexistent.
