In summary: He sent it, and the knee gave out.

After his first season and being the cross jump king I didnt think so much of this little punk, But he's stopped his cross jumping and just gone full out hard on the gas, I like the little punk now.

Austin is the real deal ! His last attempt to get the title with a jacked up knee made me think of Herlings back in 2014 when he tried to save the MX2 title with a broken femur ! We all know what came next and i am sure it is gonna be the same with Austin he will dominate next year and be a real threat on a 450 in 2021/22.

He is very outspoken and i love the fact he calls out the other 250 dudes ! This kid has balls

He was so fast this year. Such a shame he lost the title. So close.

Big gamble to give it a go. It was pretty obvious that the injury was severe and he went for it anyway. I think that call was shortsighted given the amount of pain he was in and the debilitating nature of the injury. Someone should have cautioned him against coming back. Or maybe they did. But it was Austin's decision in the end and the extra damage he probably did to his meniscus and cartilage on his femur could put a damper on his career. It must have been a tough decision to go for the title and I respect his bravery but that kind of damage on top of the original injury is not worth a title.

Do you have enough medical knowledge to say that he was putting himself at high risk for further injury to the knee that could effect the rest of his career and beyond?? Not trying to be a dick, it's a serious question

My impression was that he didn't really have anything to lose, given his outdoor title hopes for this year were already shot. That being said, I was a little surprised at how aggressive he was riding, and even more surprised he went out there for the second qualifier

His knee sounds like mine!!!! Pity I dont have the cash to go private over here.

Glad he is already looking forward to next year, hope he has learned to tone it down a little in practice (just not too much less)

Sexton will have the title and the check.
Yeah & that’s a crying shame, nothing against Chase.

I love how he races and wish he had pulled it off but it was possible he could have done more damage. Only the docs know.

His best odds were to tone it down a bit and try to get a podium in that race. Get one more week of therapy and hope for something crazy to happen in Vegas which may have.

He is young and full of confidence and as he said himself, did not have experience with this type of injury before. Too bad someone was not able to talk him into a different approach other than 'full send' in the final.

Based on him having issues in the second qualifier he had to of known (and anyone who has had this injury before knew) the knee was not going to hold up in full send mode.
