I've seen some teams, specifically Kawasaki, run specially cut foam under their fenders in SX when it gets just a little bit muddy. Yet no one was using them in Daytona. Is the foam just not useful under certain types of mud conditions or did they find it just doesn't work?

They still use it on some occasions. That shot's from the heat race. RV had the top of his helmet covered with foam in the main.

Good question, I was wondering why no hand guards either.

That was really not a hard core mud race. The conditions were brutal for sure. It was wet, sloppy, and messy but not gumbo mud like a mud race at a clay track. Gumbo is another animal. They crack out the mega foam for gumbo not splashing dirt.

Stroupe got dq'd at LL's back around '02 - '03 in one of the 80cc stock classes for running foam.

That's what I used to do. I am sure they probably do it-we just can't tell. Helps that mud to slide right off.

I hit the underside of the front and rear fenders with W-D.
