It would be a huge gamble for a rookie or someone climbing the ranks. You’d be gambling your shot at a successful career. Of course, the bike is competitive and I think it will do great but much like the 4 stroke transition I think it will start with a seasoned rider who is “over the hill” and just a touch past their prime or unable to find a spot under a factory tent.

That being said, ALTA is the future. The best future for our sport IMO

I was hoping Alta would have a top rider on one this weekend at MEC. This is year 2 that the bikes would be allowed, and I find it strange if they don't at least try. It couldn't be that expensive to put a top 10 capable rider on 1 for 1 race?

Perhaps there is a conspiracy to blackball anyone who tries it? Woohoo

I know most think he is not top tier but DD has epic style. I hope he does well.

It’s call ? ? ?. It won’t happen until the Japanese or KTM get a competitive electric bike.
Someone like Chad Reed would be perfect ambassador for the bike.

The Redshift MXR is already competitive. It's just a matter of the AMA letting them race. The motor puts out 42 ft-lbs of torque which is more than the top 450 at ~35. Maybe the factory 450's put out closer to 40 ft-lbs. The bike handles very well and jumps well. With a fast rider i think it would do well in supercross.

I agree that Alta should have mounted a rider for MEC, and maybe they had that in mind for Josh Hill before he got injured. MEC would have been a perfect test for Alta with each moto being 10 laps. But we'll see DD on it at RBSR.

Alta should roll the dice and leverage a few million on funding a SX and MX team for 2019. Be good for the sport and the riders. Just doing little one off events like straight rhythm hurts the bikes image to the masses.

Did you mean electric factory "bike"?.....I've never heard of an electric factory rider. Hammaker is definitely capable of top-level competing...do you consider him a factory rider?...I believe he is TLD. Is he electric? What is this ambiguously stated question even asking and how can so many people reply as if it is clear? LOL...Vital...Whistling

Reed would be perfect. Huge profile and needs a ride.

Curious as to why you picked Hammaker? Does he have one? Ride one at home? have a style that suits an E-bike? I don't get where his name came from.

As far as Electric factory riders, i guess Josh Hill and Darryn Durham would already be Alta factory riders. Albeit only in the RBSR at this point, but not really any other professional events they can compete at this point except maybe MEC.

No, don't know him, other than being a up and comer. I know of those other dudes riding the Alta, but I was guessing who might be the first to be top level in coming years on the Alta. Those 2 are not as top level as I was thinking. I mean actually winning races, competing for cship.

Seriously, who wouldn't want to see that?

Fair enough, so basically picking a name out of hat is what we're doing here? Since we don't know when they will be legal for pro racing we don't really have a timeline on when a factory team would exist, and cant make an educated guess in any way.

As far as Durham and Hill go, you could argue that they have achieved a higher level then 95% of amateurs coming up could ever hope to, given they've both won supercross races and ridden for factory teams. If Hammaker or any of the young kids coming up in the next 5 years achieve that, then many would call it a success.

Comparing the torque figures is quite misleading.
The 450s have a transmission, allowing them to attempt to keep their engines closer to the maximum engine rpm where the higher torque occurs. Plus the transmission multiplies that torque as it goes to the rear wheel. The Alta doesn't have a transmission, so it can't change the torque at the rear wheels, except by the fixed gearing.
If the Alta had a transmission, even a 2 speed, it would be extremely powerful, compared to the 450s.
