FIRST EIGHT RIDERS ANNOUNCED FOR RED BULL STRAIGHT RHYTHM

Pastrana, Stewart and Dungey Among First Eight Riders Confirmed For First-of-its-Kind Supercross Event with $100,000 Prize Purse

SANTA MONICA, CA (September 12, 2014) – The first eight riders have been confirmed to compete in Red Bull Straight Rhythm presented by Dodge Dart. The eight names are just the first of 32 riders that will compete in the innovative, head-to-head motocross competition on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif. The prize purse has been set at $100,000.

Action sports icon Travis Pastrana, 2012 AMA Motocross champion Ryan Dungey, and one of the most accomplished motocross riders in the sport’s history, James Stewart, headline this initial list of eight confirmed participants which also includes Josh Hansen, Josh Hill, Brett Metcalf, Cole Seely and Dean Wilson, all racing in the event’s Open Class. The inaugural event will feature 32-riders facing off in a bracketed single-elimination format, racing head-to-head on a 1/2 mile-long, “unwound” track. Tickets are available for $20 at www.redbull.com/straightrhythm .

The balance of participating riders will be announced in the weeks to come.

“I think I can safely speak for the entire group of riders in saying how excited I am about the opportunity to compete in this man-against-man, win-or-go-home situation,” said Stewart. “Straight Rhythm is a fresh take on the traditional format, and the fact that it’s bringing out guys like Travis (Pastrana) says what a truly unique opportunity it is.”

The innovative Red Bull Straight Rhythm format will pit a field of 32-riders against each other in a head-to-head, best-of-three bracket format. By removing the turns, riders must focus exclusively on reading the terrain and correctly judging their speed for precise distance and control.

Red Bull Straight Rhythm will also air on NBC on Saturday, December 20 at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT as part of the Red Bull Signature Series, a collection of the most progressive action sports events in the world. For more information, please visit www.redbullsignatureseries.com .

Auto Club Raceway at Pomona is the oldest and most well known venue on the NHRA drag racing series circuit. Built in 1951, it was opened as a way to encourage street racers to compete safely, and was built through the combined efforts of the Pomona Valley Timing Association, Pomona Police Chief Ralph Parker and the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. In 1992, Auto Club Raceway entered the final phases of a $4.5-million modernization project, which included the installation of permanent grandstand seats that can accommodate up to 40,000 fans.

Stewart isn't well enough to race, but will come out for some easy cash. Typical.

Read your sig, then reread your post.

It's been a while since he raced (and the end of the season). His situation couldn't have improved during that time? Really? Smile

Except when he doesn't. This was '06 at Daytona...and after nearly doing the same thing for the previous five laps.

I love watching Travis. He loves pushing the limits on everything he does. And he frequently finds the limits. Smile

Will he be entertaining there? Definitely. Will he win it? I'd suspect one of the current MX/SX regulars will take this one.

With Pastrana being on a 500, I think that'll be more interesting to watch than whoever wins the thing. But it would be extra badass if Pastrana won this. But I agree that an MX guy will win it. Stewart and Dungey would have to be the favorites right?

Yes, really. He should have taken every chance he had to race every outdoor that he could, that's what he's paid to do. I think US Suzuki would say the same thing.

In Latvia? Sure.

As for the Monster logos thing? Have you ever watched Red Bull's X-Fighter events? They're not bashful about inviting guys who are sponsored by other drink companies.

I personally wouldn't consider Dungey a favourite. One of Dungeys biggest strengths is in the corners and his weakness is starting quick and being aggressive from the get go.

When I hit submit, I started thinking that too. I think he's easily top 3. And depending on whether he brings his A game or not will determine if he can win it. When he's on, he's fast over the jumps too. He just doesn't have that ultra aggressive scrub like JS7.

Travis will either crash or win, I just don't see him letting the other guy get in front of him, and then doing nothing about it.

He's not going to beat guys like Dungey and Stewart.
Don't ever underestimate pastrana in a straight line with jumps, 1 minute at a time!

Dungey and Stewart make most of their time in the turns and in 15 to 35 minute Motos

If I had to pick a winner I would pick Stewart!

1. TP wins it then everyone shows up next year on a 500 2 stroke for SX 2016

2. TP wins, they all cry foul and say 2 strokes still have an advantage and next year anyone that wants to race a 2 stroke in the lites class will have to run a 85cc.

either way TP is the MAN!!!!!!!!!

Will anyone build a test track to practice on? I saw Pastrana's video but don't think that's very long of a rythm...who do you think could/would build a track just for this? My money would be on Pastrana, because he wants to win, and Stewart, simply because he can and brings exposure to his camp.
