IMO, its been one of the most competitive years in AMA Pro Motocross in both classes and looks like it might be the first season that an American does not win a championship.

It has to be so rewarding and satisfying to win one of those championships, but after leaving your home country I bet it makes even that much sweeter.

Looking forward to the final 4 motos.

Was Grant Langston already a citizen when he got his 125 title? Thought he was still technically SA then.

They mean both classes in the same season. Which might happen this year.

The 125/250F class has only been won 3 times by non Americans.

Langston 03, Wilson 11, and Ferrandis 20.

And the 250/450 class has only been won 6 times, Bayle 91, Albertyn 99, Langston 07, Reed 09, Roczen 14,16.

The 500 class was won by Karsmakers 73, Bayle 91.

(I am not counting Jeff Ward, the tv broadcast had been including him in foreign rider stats, I know he was born in Scotland, but he was Team USA through and through. Only rider on Team USA 7 times)

I know Pierre is the first non American to win an AMA Motocross Championship, that was historic indeed. However, Gary Jones won the 250 Championship in 73 the year Pierre won the 500 Championship.

This year would be historic if Ferrandis and Jett Lawerance won both Championships. It would mark the first year in AMA Motocross history that no American has won a championship.

As much as I prefer the outdoors to SX, Supercross has had a lot to do with some of the most talented foreign riders coming here to ride for much of their career. We are lucky that we have all this talent riding here Smile

The cool part is in 2009 is an Aussie won the 450 title and a Frenchie was gonna win the 250 title. Now it’s reversed

Man that's a great point I've never thought of. I prefer mx over sx by a mile. But that makes me appreciate sx a little more

As much as it sucks for the home team to lose, It proves the competition is as healthy as any in the world.

No he wasn't. He broke his arm at Washougal in 1990. I saw it happen. He raced the 250 sx and 125 outdoors in 1990.

They never ran 250 and 500 races on the same day either.

They did in the early to mid-80s. But by the time Bayle came along, it was divided. 125 went the whole season, and then the 250s and 500s split the season. Remember when the Suzuki riders in the 250 class had to drop down to the 125s because Suzuki didn't have a 500? Good times.

Who was challenging Reed in '09? I only remember Josh Grant being the other competitor.

Ya I do. Was it the year when Cooper won the title all the 250 guys dropped down to 125's? Everyone was saying they were stacking the deck for Guy to win. Great times!

Yep, Suzuki fortified their 125 forces with Larroco and L. Ward. That was the first pro AMA event I attended. I specifically remember Kiedrowski wadding it up on the drop-off/downhill. I can't remember if it was during practice but I feel like it was in Moto 1. Either way, he struggled to earn points. Regarding Bayle's crash, I feel like I witnessed it first hand. But it's possible I have my actual experience and the footage from the below video melded together.

That's a 21-year-old me jumping into the creek at the 1:19 mark in the video.
