First Time Attending Thunder Valley

This will be my first year going to a motocross race. We love going to supercross! Does anyone have any tips or helpful information on what to bring or wear? Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Pay close attention to the weather leading up to the race. Wear shoes!!! A pair you don't care much about, but that are still comfortable. Plenty of water, especially with the altitude. Oh and enjoy! Nationals are way better than supercross. You get to see the raw speed from these guys. It's crazy!

TV does not really put into perspective how awesome and BIG that place really is.I loved it when I went there.

Met up with a few Vital Bros there too. Oh and I talked to that GuyB character.LaughingTongue

Be prepared to do plenty of walking at this track. But the track was much better then I had hoped for last year. Get there early and stay late and enjoy the great racing.

Definetly bring some extra clothes and something like a rain poncho cause the weather here can go from 99 degrees and sunny to pouring rain and hail and 45 degrees in 5 minutes.

I attended the Des Nations and have personally ridden the track. The facility is top notch, especially when you see how they have carved this track into the side of a mountain. Incredible elevation changes that TV cant can even begin to justify. Yes wear shoes, bring plenty of water, I have seen many people get altitude sickness. I really like the top left to watch. Tough to watch from the bottom due to lack of seating but if you can that is the idea spot.

Although you wont be riding the track, the altitude robbing the bike of horsepower is extremely noticeable, especially the 250f I rode.

Bring water. Literally almost died there in 07. Was a burner

As others have mentioned: shoes, poncho, and water are musts.

All you need is a bikini, high heels and a pit pass.

Sunscreen or shade. Last two years I got burnt to a crisp standing out in the sun for 6-8 hours. Wear comfortable walking shoes, you'll get tired of trekking up the loose rocky hills. Water as many have said is a must.

Make sure you are fit. Man walking at that altitude is exhausting

1.) Sunscreen
2.) Maybe some sort of hat. The sun at elevation can be intense and Thunder Valley doesn't have much for shade
3.) Comfy shoes that you can march up and down the hills and stand in all day.
4.) Water, stay hydrated. I personally avoid booze.
5.) Back pack to carry your stuff.
6.) I personally don't bring folding chairs but if you like to sit and watch instead of hiking around these will be a must.
7.) It is also nice to bring a blanket.
8.) Keep up on the weather, if it's forecasting rain have your rain gear ready.
9.) Some cash for snacks(smoked turkey legs), and or souvenirs.

Make sure you take plenty of sunscreen and dress for the weather. If it's been rainy go buy cheap rain boots at Walmart.

Was there for the Des Nations in 10'..... bring lots of water, be prepared for the elevation, and when the sun goes down it gets cold fast!

For the altitude sickness, drinking more water than usual and eating foods rich in potassium and magnesium are the most important things. And look for Jason Anderson when you get there, I hear he has some great tips.

About the cooler..Some people bring a wagon and fill it up with awnings, chairs and coolers and just hang out in one spot on a hillside ....Not very mobile, unless you have a group of ya to stay with your stuff..Thunder Valley is a pretty big place..Depends on what you want to do..I like roaming around and seeing the different views of the track..A cooler would be a major pain in the ass...A foldable chair with a shoulder strap is about as bulky as id get along with a day pack...The tip about keeping an eye on the weather is a good one...Spring storms blow in pretty quick.. ..Or it can be hot and dry... haaaahah or both in one day..

Thats what Im worried about. I dont want to bring too much but I also don't want to regret not bringing a chair. Can I leave it in the car and get it if I want it? We got pit passes so I don't think I want to carry around anything besides a backpack. How hot will it get?

I'd recommend bringing in all the stufff you want with you the first time. Find a good spot to set up your stuff, chairs, umbrella etc. Use that as base camp, and wander around from there. I've been going every year they have had the national. The weather can be super fickle. It could be 100 degrees or it could be 60 degrees. The weather here is fickle and can change rapidly. Just pay attention to the weather forecast leading up to the race. And like others have said, WATER!!!! Hydrate days before you come and while you are there. Water is your best friend when it comes to altitude sickness.

A VIP parking pass is not really a necessity, the main parking is down by the AMA sign in tent and they have a bus that takes you from there to the front gate.

Try to get there a day or so early to get used to the altitude if you can. Wear hiking boots or shoes, you WILL be going up and down the big hill.

It is an awesome venue to watch from, especially by the first turn tower.
