Just a random question but do these FE bikes come with Ti bolt kits already on them?
Lack of Titanium in these detailed pics. http://racerxonline.com/2017/12/04/ktm-announces-new-generation-450-sx-…
So one could get maybe 3 pounds off with a ti rear spring, ti axles and swingarm pivot. Amazing how light this new 450 is. My 150 xc-w is only 20 pounds lighter.

Funny reading all the “looks” comments. Personally could care less. Performance people! Just think Uma Thurman.
I think about her a lot.

Why is the new rear shock only on riders bikes and not the FE bike you can get at retail? It appears to have the old shock on the new bike being sold to the public but the new shock on the factory bikes.
The shock is updated with a new piston. The "works shock" is for factory riders on the team. The Trax shock might be changed to the new design, but we will just have to wait and see.

Starting to really love the look of the new FE. Aesthetically, the 18.5 is my favorite since the 15.5 which looked amazing and was so revolutionary in weight loss.

Beautiful machine, KTM. And even lighter. Wow.

I am super happy with the look of my 2017 125 and will grab a 2018 250 to match. This new FE look is not for me. I am sure some will love it, but to me it just looks wrong.

Motard-ish rear fender, 2012-ish side plates, weird front plate, and the whole bike looks like it was just rear-ended in the parking lot.

Again, that is just my personal opinion and tastes.

When sitting on a bike you can really feel how much thinner the new bike is from the shrouds. The older model felt a bit too wide for my taste and even the factory riders said the same.

The ONE thing I never liked and now they fixed it. Running out of excuses not to get one. Damnit!

Excellent point and another BIG reason to buy a KTM. Much lower overall cost of ownership. I buy a new bike every two years. I put right at 125 hrs/year on a bike so I sell them with 250 hours. The last two I sold, a 13 and a 15 I sold for $3,000 less than I paid new.

I get to ride a "new/newer" bike for $1,500/year or $12/hr. I've had dozens of jap bikes and I've never had one that cost less to run than a KTM.

Further, I've not had to spend a penny on the 13 or 15. The top ends and even the clutches last for 250 hours without issue. All i have to do is change the oil and clean the filter every 10 hours.

When you crunch all the numbers the KTM is a bargin. FWIW, I'm nor brand loyal. I buy whatever I believe is the best machine. I rode Honda's for years before switching to KTMs in 2010.

If you can swing the coin it's cheaper to buy a new KTM every 2 years than to buy used a used bike.

Rick

P.S. You might pick up on the statement above that I bought a 17 and an 18 450 while also stating I buy every 2 years. My son actually bought the 18 for himself. First bike I didn't buy for him as he's out of college and working. He was a brand loyal Honda rider for the last 16 years. He saw how little I had to do with my KTMs and how high the resale was that he just couldn't justify buying a Honda.... It was funny seeing how tough it was for him to go KTM but he now has 40+ hours on his and he loves the bike.
Agree KTM built quality and reliability is excellent, but really with the 250hrs on a top end and clutch?! Unless you ride like a Grandma I’m calling bullshit. For a 450 the manual recommends 50hrs top, 100 bottom. I would see no problem doubling that 100/200. But you’re talking X5 hrs on a top end. Rolling the dice man. Convince me 250 hrs on a top end is a good idea...and the clutch? Wut?

Is it me, or does that FMF seem long?

The FMF looks awful.

I like the look of my 2017 better than the new bikes, really have to see one in person though.

Nice but I was hoping for spring fork. Like a production model of the CV.

So how does KTM continue to find ways to make their bikes lighter while the new bikes from Japan get heavier? Serious, what is it about their bikes that make them so much different weight wise?

My only gripe is the fuel tank opening is off center, lol Silly ....that's my OCD side. Props to KTM and Husky for lighter and faster bike's.

I wish there was a Husky factory edition, I feel like a Rockstar Husky replica would sell really well!
