2018 tm250 is a replica of the factory mx2 team bike. I see that Honda and Tm topping the dyno charts. Not that the Tm will be available unfortunately

Honda basically took the XR400 bottom and made a DOHC 250 for the Twister and Tornado(XR250) - These motors ran very well - Cam chain also on the other side of the CRF250R -

Pablo started 138 and finished Dakar 2011 on one 72 overall - Very good result against the 690's of the day

I think there is too much importance placed on raw weight with modern MX'ers. Yes it plays a factor, and everything else being equal we'd like less weight.

The manufacturers have figured out that geometry and placement of the weight play as big a factor as the weight itself.

Now I will say that I don't like the e-start and dual cams for cost and complexity reasons, but knowing Honda this bike is going to feel great in motion.

It will be good. Honda is throwing everything at this.
..it appears that way with all the extra weight.Woohoo

on another note - 250 f's are creeping toward 9K, and people wonder why this sport is dying? If there was ever a need for a 125 class again, this is it.

I'm with you on this one, yes the weight does make a small difference but people act like it is the single biggest thing to consider, instead of trashing a bike because it weighs 7 or 8 lbs more than the competing brand how about just not eating as many cheeseburgers, lose a little weight and boom, same difference.

And I also agree with you on the electric start, it has its place and is deffinately handy but I just look at it as more things that can go wrong/need replaced at some point.

This is a bitchin bike...someone posted awhile back about going back in time with a bike from today. This would be a good one to drop into say 1978 and roll up to the gate among all those yellow bikes....whoot!

I've got to applause Honda for really making changes to their bike. The new engine looks really promising!
That it revs even further is going to be interesting in a year or two when it comes to reliability.

Weight doesn't matter if you roll all the jumps guys
You don't feel all the extra weight if you can't even bottom out the suspension on a factory bike.

I'm guessing that KTM can get the weight so low because of the chrome moly frame.
well I guess thats probably right....KTM do make lighter clutches, wheels, hubs, etc that in turn do compromise reliability a little, then again they have a hydraulic clutch that is heavier than a non-hydraulic ...I guess its a trade off... I have no issue a bike being 7-9 lbs heavier if a) you cant really feel the difference while riding it and b) its more reliaible as a result ...sure you MAY feel the weight when putting it on a stand, then again must stands these days are foot lever operated.

As someone else posted in this thread there is way too much emphasis on pure weight alone ESPECIALLY if you cannot feel that difference when riding it. If the bike feels like a bloated pig then fair enough but I doubt this bike does
- much like the 450 which is also heavier than the competition, well some of it, yet doesn't feel like it when riding it..in fact (bar 1 or 2, and even then its a very fine difference that most would not notice) it actually feels lighter than other actual lighter bikes.

i agree, on track a 17 crf 450 feels lighter than a ktm 450 to me .

2017 crf 250 wet weight 231 lbs. So if the new one is 238 that's 7 lbs. Not a bad trade for spring forks, e start an extra headpipe, and 1000 more rpm on the tach via an extra cam. If the thing stays together as well as the previous model it's a win.

Use the hand crank, an additional feature not mentioned on the new CRF is a hand crank like the type used to start cars, you crank this for 10 minutes, to generate enough power to charge the battery..this also charges a WiFi router hooked up automatically to a local Internet provider, the added benefit of the hand crank is that its a great body warm up exercise, I am sure it will catch on all other manufacturers

Anybody notice Honda went with a 120/90-19 rear tire on this bike. They must know it's got a lot of power to pull that big of a tire. The 450 has a 120/80-19 rear on it.

I don't think it will be long and all the manufacturers will make one frame and just different motor mounts for 250 or 450
