So this is my first attempt in getting back into riding/mx in over 20 years. I raced a bunch in the 90's and haven't slung a leg over a dirt bike in long time. I do have Yamaha FZ 09 that I rip around on quite a bit. My local dealer has a new '17 RMZ 250 that I can get super cheap. I've read a bunch of reviews that this bike is a dog, but should I care since it's been awhile on a bike. Or maybe a 450? I have no clue.

How much do you weigh? If you are 220+ may want to get a 450. Also depends on what type of track you are riding. If deep sand you may want to get a 450. Everything else The RMZ250 is a great bike. I ride my buddys 2012 time to time and it does everything you could want it to do for leisure riding. Turns and handles like a champ. Power is good and easy to control doesn't wear you out at all. Do you plan on racing? If riding just for fun get the RMZ and have a blast. The people that call this bike a dog probably race all the time, but just for going out to the track and screwing around its a great bike.

I weighed 220 lbs on a 250F and although it was a lot of work and I was seat bouncing stuff a lot it was still a ton of fun. Like Flip109 said, the 250F will cover most of your bases especially since you're getting back into the swing of things; unless you ride deep sand all of the time I think you'll be happy.

What kind of price is the RMZ going for? Just curious.

I've been eying one that my local dealer took in trade with 8 hours and some nice cosmetic upgrades. They want $4,700 and they aren't a Suz dealer so no new inventory to compare to. But then I look across the floor at a 10 hours 2017KTM250SX and I think that would be my ticket back to dirt bike riding.

$4700 might be a bit high for a used RMZ 250. I'd imagine you could get a new '18 for less than $1000 more.

If the price is right I would do it.

That bike will do anything you need it to do. After not riding for 20 years the last thing you need is a 450 IMO.

That RMZ250 is going to be perfect for coming back to the sport after 20 years.

I'll be down around 190 next spring for riding. I plan on racing but the track has moderate sizef tabletops with easy landings.

I was thinking a 350 but price might be a little high. Can't seem to find one around me less than 6k

A modern 250f should stomp on any mid 90s bike you rode. You don't "need" a 450

I got back into riding after 20 years and the first bike I bought was a YZ250 2 stroke. That was a mistake. Traded it for a 250F and was much happier. I now also have a 350, which is a fantastic bike. I think that getting back into riding is much more fun (and safer!) on a 250f compared to a 450.
