Filthy Phil racing Canadian Nationals in 2019

Edited Date/Time 8/28/2018 4:15am
On the Ironman National review podcast, Matthes noted Phil's 6th place finish in points this year for outdoors, then said Phil will be racing the Canadian Nats next season. No official deal inked yet, but hard to imagine he wouldn't be on another White bike. EDIT: Team Rockstar Yamaha, reportedly Not sure what his plans, if any, are for deathcross as Phil calls it (SX)

Seems like a fitting next step for a dude like Phil, and where he's at in his career + the current state of available rides, etc.

Also, Phil is tight with the ClubMX guys, who are obviously already involved in a Canadian Nats effort with the ClubMX / Redemption Racing team

I don't follow AMA silly season much, but with him going to canada i take it there isn't a decent ride available for a 250SX-450MX year in the US? He'd be a top 10 contender in both.

Sad as I would have put him in before a few 2nd riders (maybe even Deano). I hope he gets a good deal as def earned it - jumping to different team & bike 1/2 way through season, shame on JGR for not giving him what he’s earned.

Sucks, Dude has earned a decent ride here. I was hoping he could hang on for the win on Saturday but it wasn't that muddy!

Good for him. He hasn't had the SX results to get a decent full-time ride on a 450, so that makes sense. Wish the best for him.

We will welcome him with open arms but he needs to be in the U.S.

It's too bad that this sport just doesn't allow for riders to compete and earn a living based on their merits. Guys like Nicoletti and Alex Martin have good seasons, and left searching for a spot the next season.

If he does, I’ll chauffeur him around and be his man friend at The Glade. I get grumpy too and need to talk.

So weird, if you finish outdoors in front of Phil you are a millionaire, behind Phil....not so much,

Canada's become VERY competitive. They've got a new 250 champ that is the real deal. Their 450 class has really gotten faster over these last few years.

Anyone see Tyler Medaglia's results from Saturday? He got 4th in the Candian Motocross Chamionship (he beat Phil at Ironman).

The racing in Canada is no joke, the ability to watch the racing on the other hand is a complete joke.

I think it would be cool if he ended up here in Canada but it really sucks that a guy who won a heat in a 250 SX, got a moto and overall podium in a 450 National, and finished 6th in points while changing bikes and teams, cannot get a good ride in the USA. All the money that gets spent on the next big thing, while good riders with solid careers are passed over. Cantrell has done nothing in 2 outdoor seasons, or Jordan Bailey who literally showed zero improvement all season. KTM/Husky needs to take that money and spend it on a guy like Phil. Ridiculous.

He's always been good. He finished 5th in the points in his last full season prior to this.

Hate to see him go as I think he's an asset to any series e completes in but... I'm excited for him and wish him the absolute best of luck.

It's entirely possible he was offered a decent ride in the states, but a Canadian team stepped up with a better offer. For as awesome as his last few races were, no US team is going to get in a bidding war over him. Go to Canada and cash checks/cheques, Phil.

I would really like to see philthy get a shot at a full factory 450 indoors and out. He had a couple breakthrough rides recently, maybe he’s a new guy come Anaheim.

Yep, sad that "amateurs" get more support than the pros outside the top 5

I wouldn't go that far. Wilson podiumed in supercross, i dont see Phil doing that unfortunately. He's durable, reliable and super fast outdoors though.

I'd like to see Phil get a west coast 250 ride on a factory bike, then a 450 ride in Canada if he cant get a factory gig in the US. A full 450 supercross season might limit how well he can perform outdoors, supercross is a grind, and injuries bite even the best of them.

Phil expected to be signing with Rockstar Yamaha for his Canadian debut, per Matthes on the Pulp MX Show just now.

(Nice call in, Walker)

So how do you watch? Does anyone put them on youtube?

After two seasons using the NBC sports gold app, I'm 100% spoiled now

The Canadian series now includes arenacross, motocross and supercross to round out a full season plus there are a few breaks to hit US rounds.

That is definitely more appealing then before when it was just 9 outdoor rounds.
