I thought the KTM Jr challenge was a random draw.
I am saying this because his son is racing tonight in Atlanta.
Sometimes it's who you know.

I agree. it obviously helps to have a name already in this sport. We're seeing this at several rounds. Doesn't appear to be much "randomness" about it.

Entrench bitterness in your passed over kids and you will instill a never ending source of motivation and red-assness.

I'm not saying how or why, but I have no doubt my kid could be selected for the JR. supercross in 5 years if he wants to be. There is definitely a "who you know" component, although I don't believe every one of the riders has been treated favorably.

Either way it gives something to the program. Lets be honest, that's the way the world can work sometimes. I think it's a good thing if a former racer of ferrys level wants to let his kid race it. Good luck to them all!

Another teachable moment for your kids....the importance of networking. You learn more from failure than from success.

bellone, I suppose Deegans kid was a random pick too. As cool as the JR challenge is, It used to be a major pain to try to get in.

For most it is...whats wrong with giving a little love to former racers kids it stirs interest in the program and in KTM...you know this is part of marketing right? And Indy will be very interesting!

So.. your kid didn't make it.. hit them up for St Louis. you should know KTM pays Feld for the right to run there program in supercross , So don't get down on them for having a name in the ranks.. .

I think Matthes eluded to Feld having a hand in this. Since the KTM Junior Challenge is part of Feld's "show" (the entire evening of SX is a Feld event), they have the ability to spice it up as they see fit. Getting former SX racer's kids into the program is a good way to do that. Maybe Feld has a deal with KTM such that one or two spots are always reserved for Feld or something. Just speculating.

Deegans son did it at what of the Anaheim races. Who cares honestly, just because he's a former pro's kid doesn't mean he shouldn't get a shot at it.

If the rumors are true, you guys will see an special kid ride in Indy. Extra hint: there is allot of fuzz about it in Europe because its a kid from a former world champion.

WARNING!!!! Do not go to the live sx practice webcast! It may be too much for you disgruntled mini-dads to see the KTM kids out there practiceing.

To rub dirt in your wound, they are featuring the Ferry kid.

LeBlanc, Deegan, and Ferry have given enough to help grow the sport that what's the big deal?

It also helps people make the decision to buy a bike for their kid when they see past racers, and such putting their kids on them. I for one am all for getting new kids into this sport anyway possible, and if even one kid sees Deegan's kid racing and tells dad Deegan's kid does that, can I? I'm all for it

Just watched it because some of our friends are participating this week. I'm not saying it's all fixed and hand picked, as is proof this week, but I also agree with one of the posts above stating they may hand pick a few. Also, good call Choppy on former pros allowing their kids to race; you make a good point.

Not disgruntled here, as we didn't enter, so didn't expect to get picked. Tongue

Could all the VitalMx folks agree that we'll make the KTM Junior the one part if the SX program that nobody gripes about? Or is that too much to ask?
2/23/2013 12:44pm

It says in the fine print KTM has the right to choose kids as well. Not a big deal though.
