What's your take on his 450 starts? His lap times look great for most of this season but those starts are costing him wins

They said the same about Mike Larocco, starts are key if you want to win in Supercross.

Ferrandis’s speed has been good and his starts have been killing him, but tonight that wasn’t the case. He just wasn’t really fast enough.
Started in 11th and finished 9th.

Man....you'd think he'd get this ironed out by now. It's been plaguing him for far too long.

I wanna see him win in SX

Eli’s starts are back as well? He was behind Ferrandis. I do believe Eli got back up in last and passed back a bunch including Ferrandis. His starts suck but they haven’t cost him any wins. Podiums maybe not wins.

According to his inatagram he had some serious back pains in the main.

His starts though, disaster. I think he would have had atleast 3 podiums if he would start good. The only start that was ok from him this year he finished on the box.

Eli started right behind Ando last week. Are we expecting him to get good starts every single week now?

That would explain the lack of forward progress as usual. Did he say why? Crash injury?

I wanna see some come from behind races. However with the field and what they are riding (SX). It seems thats a motocross only kinda thing. Start top 5-7 and thats somewhat realistic to win. Further back, its so much more work/not enough time to get it done unless you have some luck.

True his starts are holding back better finishes, but he’s making more than a few mistakes as well. If you watch him during qualifying he’s had multiple moments really close to disaster. Even last night the little bit they showed of him, he messed up and took ET with him. He’s got to clean it up on the gate for sure, but a bit smoother on the track is needed also.

Funny that several people here had him as the title favorite this year. Unless Eli, Chase, and Anderson end up in a pile in one big crash, I honestly don’t see Ferrandis winning a race until the nationals begin.

Ferrandis has collected 4 points penalty saterday for jumping under yellow so this season isn't his luckiest one.

I'm starting to think I could beat him to the first turn. Silly

It just amazes me that one of the most talented riders in the world can’t learn how to get out of the gate better.. People always talk about his work ethic, it just puzzles me that he can’t start in the top 15, yet can be one of the fastest on the track indoors and out.

It looks like he gets off the gate ok it’s after 10- 20m that the rest pull away.
Looks like he starts in 2nd gear would 3rd help him like Andrew Short used to do, or he likes his gearing which hinders him off the line

His outdoor starts aren't that bad either

Does anything of his SX performance make anyone think different of his moto title defense?

I don’t but will be great racing with Eli seemingly refreshed and loving the same bike.

I can see Ferrandis getting a handful of top 5 and a couple more podiums this SX season. Daytona and Atlanta being his main opportunities. He only needs top 10 starts.

I'm a fan but he needs more than just a start (I'm aware of back issues this race). Qualifying times suggest he should be able to start anywhere and move to the front. He's got to tidy things up. Can't be pinballing off tuff blocks or jumping off track. He also got a penalty this week too.

It's a different skill set, and somebody's gotta be 15th best at it. Same reason Friese can rip the start over anybody but end up 10th. Corner and whoop speed does not necessarily translate into starting technique.

There is a reason he is good at coming through the field, he has no choice... he should never do anything but practice starts until he gets a holeshot.

He started 11th last weekend, finished 9th.
Agree though, he’ll likely do better on the bigger tracks.

Seems like certain riders struggle in certain areas and for one reason or another don't really improve over the years significantly. Webb in the whoops, Tomac struggles off and on with starts, Alessi always seemed to struggle in the whoops, and Ferrandis' starts are a struggle.

Starts seem more mental than the rest of the race. His jump out of the gate is just slow. I'm guessing he is working on the starts during the week, but maybe they don't practice them in a way that produces results? I still have really high hopes for Ferrandis. The dude has a ton of determination but he seems to shine outdoors moreso than indoors.
