In 2014 when JS7 wadded it up in the whoops while in second place and didn’t finish got a 19th. So how in the world did Ferrandis get 7th when he didn’t even finish the race?
You have been a member since May of 2009 and you are unaware of how scoring works?

Yeah, i would think you have to cross the finish line while the checkers are out to actually finish a race. Otherwise, you actually didnt finish.

It didn't used to be this way. I was at the Gatorback national when David Bailey crashed on the last lap at the bottom of the finish line hill. He and Broc Glover had lapped up to 3rd place, but he was scored a DNF and no points. I'm glad they changed it.
Im glad they changed it too. I think he should be scored with 7th cause 8th place already pulled off the track after getting the checkers. Makes perfect sence to me. But then again how does anyone ever score a DNF? Its either a DNS or a finishing position based off of how many laps were run vs the competition.

I can't answer that for supercross/motocross because I don't know the specific rule, but most forms of racing have a percentage-of-laps rule, such as 70%. If you log, say, 3/4 of the winner's laps you'll be classified by distance; if you drop out at the halfway point, you'll get a DNF.

I had this issue at a local meeting. I was in the vets class, running about 8th or 9th or what ever. I had a technical issue on the last lap, stone got jammed in the rear brake I think. Anyway there was some fast vets that turned up that day & they lapped up to about 15th. I was pissed that I couldn't finish the race & thought nothing of it. That night, the results were posted online & I was classified as 36th & not behind the last guy not to get lapped.

Another time, a guy was leading the pro race & he crashed into the track side fencing causing a red flag, no injuries just winded. Again the results were posted that night and he was credited with the win enough though he caused the red flag. Most motorsports as far as I'm aware adopt the rule that whoever caused a red flag is dropped from the results.

Yes. They in fact pulled off earlier than all the guys who were scored ahead of them; they never ran the full race distance. How is that not clear?

and his result is nothing to do with who he is

No, they crossed the finish line at the end of their 7th lap. Ferrandis had already done that some time before.

The GP's used to have a rule that you had to take the checkered flag to be classified.

I'm trying to figure out which is my favorite thread from this weekend and it's between this one, the one about Justin Hill being the new J-Law, and the one about the Austrian guys hating America.

Let’s use middle school mentality shall we.... Ferrandis went 1 lap further than 14 other dirt bike riders. If ferrandis did 8 laps and the 14 other riders went 7, how many of those riders went further than ferrandis?
