Sometimes it just takes a freshie. Not to say that the CR was a bad motorcycle, but it was old and needed more TLC than I was looking to put in. I didn't realize how much the bike was holding me back from having fun, until now.

Only problem is that now all I wanna do is ride, but it's the end of November Pinch

October is when dirt bike season starts. It ends when the thermometer hits 85 or 90 again.. All the girls are at the lake.

We have actually been really lucky with some great woods riding. Even in the snow.

Nice man! How do you like the yz250? I've been looking at getting back into the sport and to do so in an affordable way. Have had a few yz250f's, yz125, ktm150 (hated), crf250r and was thinking maybe a yz250, heard though they were not the best for everyone. Enjoy man!

This is a yz250x and I think it's the best all around dirt bike I've ever ridden. I had a yz250 back in 2009 and found it to be far too unforgiving. This bike is awesome. Smooth enough to work in the woods, but still so close to the MX model that it does great at the track.

Coming off a cR250 and a YZ250 before that. Last 4 stroke was a yz250f back in 2009.

Get yourself a KTM 300 XC and you'll really love riding Wink

Seriously though, glad you're having fun again.

I heard you lose top end with that needle? I'm gonna try a few different needles for sure

That's awesome JW381. I think Yamaha did a great job with this bike. So how you getting along with the transmission ratios? From what I read they have same 1st,2nd as YZ250, but lower 3rd and higher 4th,5th. Seems like there's a lot of options to customize(enduro, hs, mx, or desert) with final gearing changes (if need be).

4th is tough. I've hit I a few times on the track and it's a little awkward. I will try a 49 tooth rear sprocket eventually. 3rd is a money gear though, at least.

I heard a lot of guys prefer the x even for moto. Thanks for responding and enjoy the freshie.

3 weeks or so I'll hopefully be getting one of these. I took the year off from riding but this thing has me fired up to get back riding and I haven't even ridden the thing... It's been about 20 years since I rode a 2 stroke which was a clapped out 87 CR125, everything else has been variety of YZ250f. I'll keep my 2010 for moto and set this thing up with tubliss, flywheel weight, zip-ty tank and can permanently mount the bark busters on instead of putting them on and off every time I go between moto and woods.

A friend bought one just a few weeks ago and loves it, he's getting in to woods now after nothing but moto. I have a buddy that is one of our top national pros and he loves these things too, even for moto, says I can't go wrong with it.

It's part of a complete retro kit. Not sure how that bothers you that much lol

Looks nice. Hard to go wrong with the YZ.

What was the main thing holding you back from having fun on the CR250?

Just wanted to post an update after some more seat time. I've ridden my 250x at a few tracks, technical PNW woods and the dunes. This is the best motorcycle I've ever ridden and if recommend it to anyone!! My roommate actually just bought one yesterday.

Aside from little setting changes, all I've done so far is add a r304 shorty. I am going to do a few more goodies in the near future, but it's amazing in stock trim. I love this bike and it sounds like a rice crispy.

Good to see you enjoying it! Not sure if they have changed the needle in those since 07 but my YZ ran much better with a triple taper NECJ needle, coupled with the head mod that was an awesome bike.

Will it do wheelies?

Do you throw a 19” wheel on for track days?

yeah, great bike.

I had an X in 2016 and I really enjoyed it. I just wish they would build a new motor for it. It's just not enough thrust for an aggressive rider.

I have a TX300 and it's certainly a faster, more capable package in every way, but it's nowhere near as fun to ride as the YZ250/X. The Yamaha just feels good. It feels right.

Look into doing the power valve mod. It gets rid of that flat spot at 3/4 throttle. I honestly didn't believe in the mod at all and put off doing it for over a year. Once I finally did it I was quite surprised at how much it improved the power delivery. Power valve opens quicker but it still isn't a light switch like the regular YZ. It is a happy medium imo.

Anyway, my YZ250x is very much a track only bike now, even put the regular YZ 3-5th gears in. I just found 3rd too close and 4th too far away for tracks. If I were still doing desert or offroad though I never would have touched it! The X gearing is awesome for all round, do anything riding.

Sorry, but technology changes, After Market products are available! Yamaha scored big with the YZ250X, good for them! Great bike, but!

I just had 2 weekends in a Row of Epic riding!

No. I am not a 25 year pulling off big jumps, but riding Honda Elsinore's in 1974 and riding an After Market Product that everyone can buy just goes to show Entraprenures can beat Yamaha at their own game!

Eddie Sanders Racing (ESR) (Pismo Beach, Ca.) makes a $900 YZ 325 with a Cylinder, Power Valve, Weisco Piston, Machined Head & Gaskets to fit.

Rejetting your Keihin Carb (170 to162 Main & 48 to 42 Pilot makes your YZ 250 (now YZ 325) the Best Value Bike on the Market!! Torque down low and a nice after burner hit in the last 2K RPM!
