When the track gets really dry , lots of marble's on top and there really isn't any moisture left on the track. What tire combo do you guys like / best success with?

Haha, not sure any tracks around here let anything get too hard packed anymore, what with watering every 43 seconds.

I pretty much just keep running MX3S until they're trashed. Easy to pull off on my YZ250 though... I could see a 450 ripping knobbies off in short order when conditions are too dry.

D756 Hands down best overall tire for grip, especially with the 20" front

Bridgestone 403/404... I know its supposed to be an intermediate tire but, it does pretty ok when the track is prepped and pretty ok when it dries out and the blue grove begins to form!

I used to love the Dunlop 952 at Piru. When it got dry and hard packed, that tire worked awesome there

Bridgestone x40. They seem to work great in a wide range of conditions too.

Back in the day.... Bridgestone's M22 & M23 were awesome!

Dunlop K88HT was a good rear too.

The new tires seem to have a wider range of terrain they cover now.

MX52 is AWESOME new but I get less than 10 hours on them so I quit buying them. Next is Bridgestone 404 for me, great grip but lasts longer. Now I have an FX 350 that I street legaled. I put a Sedona 9?? on and it works great on hard pack and in the woods not too good in the wet.

Yeah that's one of them. Like BVM said above , I usually tend to run the X30's , sometimes with an X20 up front , but on hard packed track.....was looking at trying something a little different.

Joe....here is one thing to consider. A lot of my riding over the past year has been on a 125 , which really don't wear tires out near as bad. Not sure exactly why that is , maybe the weight of the bike.

So if a set of tires don't wear like they would on let's say a 450.......then what's the choice?

try the Michelin Starcross 5 Medium. I was a Bridgstone's 403/404 guy. Tried the battlecross tires and don't like them at all. MIchelin are my new go to.

Jeffro, when I test rode that KTM 300 last year, it was fitted with AT81 Bridgestone’s, I believe, and they were solid. Calgary track is exactly like what you described, and the traction was phenomenal, front and rear. This kind of performance, on a bike that’s not even close to set up for my 270 lbs. After my warm up lap, I twisted that grip as hard as I could, the tire performance, or possible lack thereof, didn’t even factor in. Going to buy a set for my 500, and see how they work.
