Format coming up, hopefully.

Crowd noise can make a difference when battling it out for a position. I know it did when I raced in a large stadium with a large crowd. Made a pass for what I thought was the lead and the win, including putting the Maico into the show at the Kingdom last century. My pit board said I was in 2nd when I was really in 3rd. I passed 2nd place on the last lap, last turn... last chance, heard the roar of the crowd with each near pass earlier in the race. And knowing that I just chucked it and pinned it then damn near shit myself when I did. Found out right after that there was no win, no show and only 10 dollars more for the position... 10 fucking dollars, 5 I dollars if you count my stained undies

Anyhoo, my point being is the loud crowd can make a difference to the guy passing for an upfront position. So what can be done in this instance coming up?

Yell really loud at your TV. If everyone does it, maybe they will be able to hear it.

With the technology today it might possible. Maybe assign a "crowd roar" in a can to folks that represent a single rider.

Fox is talking about piping in fake crowd noise and virtual fans in the stands for NFL. Wonder if that sound is in the stadium for the players too?

There’s arguments for and against. As long as there’s no fans in the stands, why fake it? Leave SX alone. No gimmicks.
Just so the broadcast doesn't seem dull or lifeless. Honestly, I don't think there needs to be guy with a 'crowd roar' button waiting for something exciting to happen but I wouldn't be mad if there was some sort of false crowd background white noise.

As long as there are bike sounds and the announcers are as animated as the usually are, I think it will be fine regardless. I'm just afraid if they try to add fake noise, they will botch it horribly and it will be painful. See: RBSR Engine noise

Testing positive for coronavirus could take someone out of a championship, too. That's a new wrinkle.

Tried watching the NASCAR race yesterday, but without fans, with everyone in masks, no personal interaction or facial expressions, there was just no atmosphere brought out that makes a race a race. I really hope I don’t have the same feeling Sunday night after the first Supercross, because I’m not real interested in watching anymore NASCAR like that debacle. Maybe I’ve just “moved on” from watching sterilized broadcasts and have better things to go do with my time, we’ll see.

The Bundesliga started this weekend and it was horrible without fans.

The one thing that "saves" SX is that in my opinion the fans doesn't add anything. It will basically be like the RDL practice streams and that is fine in my opinion.

There are plenty of sections and tracks in outdoors where the crowd can’t give verbal cues to the riders and they manage just fine. Most of us here have raced every race in our lives without cheering to warn when someone is behind us.

Agreed...

Reminds of when BMW started piping in fake engine noises thru the sound system on the M5 cars....

Rediculous.

SX need to release an App, it simply lists all the riders. You press on the riders name when you want to cheer them on, which automates as cheering sound through the track side speakers

The speakers can chant out the riders names, the more their name gets pushed the louder those cheers get

LOL

Can't see it happening, but no reason it couldn't in this day and age. Virtual crowds coming to empty stadiums around the world.

The fact that they put masks on them and made them social distance suggests they plan to reuse them.
