Awesome build to celebrate the 30 year partnership between Scott and Pro Circuit.

Holy fuck!
Motoconcepts: there are not enough new bikes to put our team on them.
This guy: cuts new bike apart and puts ktm engine in it, outfits it with every part available.

Yeah, what he ^ said. Woohoo

Only way it could be any cooler is if they actually put one of McGrath's old race engines in it.

They wanted to build a modern version of the Peak bike. That said, an old MC engine would've been great.

Based on the original Pro Circuit team bike, the 1991 Peak Pro Circuit Honda CR 125, this 2021 version features a similar look, but with all-new parts and configuration. We didn’t want to build a complete replica, but more a tribute to the original bike with a modern, custom twist.

Although this bike is very different from the 1991 version, we still wanted to keep the main structure true to the original. For this reason, we used a white Honda frame and of course a Pro Circuit exhaust system. When it came to the engine, we knew we had to keep it two-stroke. The most high-tech 125 two-stroke motor on the market today is the KTM SX engine, so that is that we went with. SCOTT grips were of course a must too! After that we let our bike-builders creative flow, and hopefully you will agree that the outcome was a real work of art.

I understand, but I have to wonder if the old MC spec engine would really give up that much to a stock KTM ? After all, it's still a square, mechanical power valved, case reed, carbureted 125cc two stroke engine. What's so much more high tech about it?

From the latest @Ping column:

Ping,

Random question, how would one of your PC race bikes from the 90’s compare to a current 125, or 150?

I would say they probably made a little more power than a stock bike today, but I don’t think they handled as well as a modern bike in stock trim. The Yamaha YZ125, for example, is incredible right out of the box; the Kawasaki’s of that era were not. My last 125 race bike was from 2003, and that’s really when development on two-strokes stopped advancing.

Yes, the stock KTM/Husky/GasGas is faster than the stock bikes from back then. But I have a YZ125 that has a Pro Circuit motor and exhaust on it and it’s almost as fast as any race bike I had, and much faster than a stock 125 of any brand.

I think the peak for 125 development was right around 2000 to 2002; my 2000 Suzuki RM125 and 2002 KTM 125 SX were probably the quickest two 125 race bikes I ever had, including the Pro Circuit bikes from 1995-1997. Like I said, all the brands were still improving every year at that point.

Slowest race bike? My 1998 FMF/Honda made as much horsepower as a vacuum cleaner. And not a good vacuum like a Kirby or a Dyson. If you go to Wal Mart and find the cheapest model that will barely pull lint off the floor, that’s about an apples-to-apples comparison. It handled great, but when you’re going that slow you could be riding a lawn mower and it would seem like it handled well.

The 150 is a completely different bike; it’s amazing what that extra 25cc’s does to the torque and horsepower numbers. It’s too bad we can’t get all the manufacturers to bring back 150cc two-stroke racing… that would be amazing. Thanks for the question… have a great weekend!

I was listening to a Mitch podcast and he said by The Kawi's 95-on they had already far surpassed the early Honda's. Though I agree it would be pretty cool nostalgia wise.Cool

That's what I'm talking about.

I had completely forgotten about the existence of Ancillotti bikes. These are pretty cool actually.

Is that really a CZ prototype? Unsure Looks a lot like a modified TM chassis with a KTM engine to me.
