That's actually an interesting question and I'd like to know to know, too. I want to say that matthes asked about it on a podcast or post race interview one time, but can't put my finger on which one. It's a blinking light, though right? I think the idea was tossed around that it was in association with the RPMs or something of that nature. Long story short - I have no clue.

It's a light to tell the riders off the start that they're in the right gear/RPM. A lot of teams use something behind the front number plate but Honda felt like the front fender was a better mounting spot.

They should run the wire under the fender instead of on top.

As for making sure your in the correct gear to start? Your a pro, i think uve fathomed that by the time factory honda in japan rings up to offer you millions of dollars to ride for them.

Maybe its just me, but its getting like F1.
