Ask yourself this, if you take any part that is currently made of Aluminum and just use half the material in a Ti version, will it be a good product?

So you are saying they took an aluminum version and made every piece out of Ti and half the wall thickness throughout?

That wasn't my question by the way, I said "take any part", not specific to the silencer. I guess my point being, lighter isn't always better if it breaks or gets a ding in it by looking at it.

The body on these mufflers are aluminum. I don't know why people think the body is titanium.

It's not a completely Ti silencer, and it isn't an application where they used half the material throughout so it isn't automatically lighter or stronger or better than any other one out there. I guess you missed my point of asking, so I'll just drop it. I work as an mfg engineer so I get the material properties thing.

I don't like stainless steel because of the rust, even though it's lighter than Titanium.

I'm not arguing this thing sucks and I don't know how it performs, I jut didn't understand why you were stating that Ti is stronger and you can use half as much when that doesn't apply to this application. Did you dyno it versus other silencers?

I can tell you that my PC silencer is much lighter than my stock one and neither of them are Ti. IMO, I'm happier with my (possibly heavier) 1/4 the price silencer that may or may not outperform the FMF.

How ironic, a bunch of 2-stroke guys arguing over a $400 silencer. .....

That Ti 2.1 can is aluminum? That's why it cost $100.00 more than the Ti 2 which is aluminum?

I'd take a heavy, stock and quiet muffler or $400 Ti muffler over a 5 hour drive to Bumfaurk just to ride my bike due to noise complaints that closed all the local riding areas.
Then sell your four stroke immediately.
I only have 2 x 2 strokes at the moment and 3 if you count the boys PW50 and working at a KTM dealer, I get paid to work and ride on 2 and 4 stroke bikes everyday so you'll have to do better than that. I do like that you have found Doma products and standard length mufflers are better on CR250's that offer little over rev standard. Your now only 14 years behind, but good on you for learning and admitting your mistakes.

Did y'all know that KTM (and therefore Husky) has an agreement with FMF to be the only place you can buy FMF's for those through their hard parts catalogue? Maybe not in the USA yet, but it's coming.

This is the current style of PC 304 silencer with stainless / aluminum construction. They weigh almost as much as a stock 2005+ YZ125 silencer, but they sure sound cool.

I find these old-school PC silencers (used) that were for the '99 YZ125. Then I cut the bracket off, TIG weld it in a different location and also modify the stainless inlet tube. There is no difference in power, but this cute little guy weighs a whole lot less than the new PC304. The smaller body doesn't hold as much glass, so it requires re-packing more often. By ear, it isn't any louder and the length is basically the same between them. It's not a shorty.

I think the real reason that FMF silencer in the original post is so huge is that they can use the specially shaped Titanium tubing that they already have on the shelf to build it. Manufacturing gets a whole lot more expensive when you have to order a different size tubing for each product you manufacture. Those massive silencers are dumb and so is the $400 price tag, unless they make the bike substantially lower in sound output.

I have a PC muffler on my '14 YZ450... It's way too loud. I will probably end up putting the spark arrestor insert that came with the pipe back in there to quiet this thing down.

Why are so many people worried about what others buy?

I personally love the new FMF silencer.

If you don't, great don't buy one.

I texted Lil' Donnie and he Facebook messaged me a link to his twittergram that says the F4.1 is magnesium, with a stainless tip. Carbon mounting hardware. Sounds trick.

Well, you could do like I do. '06 RM 250 bone stock, silencer and all. (O.K., the suspension was revalved) I don't have a need for a blinged up, or ever so slightly faster bike. Nothing against people wanting to "purty" up their bikes, some of them are sweet looking rides, but what I've always found even sexier, is to blow by one of the sexy bikes with a stocker wearing outdated and mismatching gear. But that's just me.

From FMF Website

"The Titanium 2 is our premiere racing silencer. Designed from our commitment to factory level racing and once used by both Yamaha of Troy and Factory KTM, the Titanium 2 is built with a titanium performance flow end cap and titanium stinger to maximize overall weight savings. Combined with an anodized Shorty canister, the Titanium 2 delivers the power characteristics demanded by top riders. Completely rebuildable, the Titanium 2 silencer is the lightest silencer FMF has ever made."

FMF has a big silencer called their "Q stealth" that fits the two strokes. It makes great power. The thing is massive, bulky, and weighs at least as much at three shorties.

Its an awesome product. I can fire up my big bore yz 250, in the neighborhood, and ride around the streets. Pretty much all you hear is the chain slapping the guides. The reason its great is the reaction of the people who hate motorcycles. They look at you with this puzzled look as is they wonder how the bike is moving due to a lack of noise.

i fell for the "Titanium" is better gig on my YZF250 back in '05, biggest crock of shit i ever spent money on. the header looked like a pop-can with multiple split holes after a half year motos and the muffler completely fell apart before the year was up.

i will say that i enjoy the low-end grunt of my FMF shorty on my 300. i run my Turbine Core 2 silencer most of the time, but on the narrow tricky steep trails i'll run the shorty. it's rare that i'm using the top end on my trails.

I'll throw it on a postage scale tomorrow. To be honest it does not feel all that light....I'll weigh my regular Pro Circuit against it too.

@EK298 It is going on a 2006 KX 250 with a Pro Circuit platinum...or FMF Gnarly if I am cruising the woods. With some luck I'll have enough time to to mount it up tomorrow night.
