They had an amateur day in 78' or '79. I got to race that track on a '78 RM100. The only thing I remember is dropping down through the peristyle jump!

I was at the Chargers/Rams game last weekend, and that place is falling down.

It's historic, and had the peristyle, that's about all it has going for it.

The field has been reduced along the side lines over the years to allow for more rows of seats to be put in for football, so the track will be tighter than the glory days of the 70s and 80s. The parking is a nightmare, as they have removed a ton of the parking lots for development. Cant wait for the new Rams stadium to open.

Let's be honest, the peristyle is what we need!

Because of the area the colosseum is in. South Central LA wasn’t exactly an inviting area to go in.

Especially in 1992 with the LA Riots. They held the race in the day to get the fans and teams out of town before dark.

It’s getting better, but still not Anaheim or San Diego.

Plus the stadium is probably the 5th option in Southern California for a race. And will be the 6th when the new Rams Stadium is done in 2020.

1. Angel Stadium
2. Petco Park
3. Dodger Stadium
4. Qualcomm (SDCCU/Jack Murphy) Stadium
5. LA Coliseum
6. Rose Bowl

Ohhhhh alright i didn’t know that...Thanks for the info and that’s sad because the stadium layouts are unique with the coliseum style. But i’ve heard Atlanta wasn’t very safe too and the race seems to be working fine there.

It was falling down back when the X Games did moto events there.

Honestly, it's a historic dump.

The stadium is not the same as it is in the OPs pictures,it has sky boxes in front of where you would ride through the peristyles and like it was noted before the stadium floor is much smaller.
Here is a current picture.

Even with the renovations USC is making to the stadium, the Coliseum would be horrible for SX. There is little to no parking now (can't even park on campus for football games anymore) and what parking is available would be taken up by the pits. It would be awful as far as the fan experience goes.

I went to one Rams game there last year. That place is rough to say the least. There was only one entrance open when we were trying to get in. It would have been a huge hazard if there was any kind of emergency.

Went to a Metallica concert in 2003 there and it was a dump then. Had to park pretty far away and walk through several alleys to get to the gate.

No thanks.

Funny this thread came up, I was just watching some older races (95-97) on the youtubez the other day, and it watching them go up in the stands and back down really brought back some memories. Those years were my some of my more developmental years as far as following the sport. I was thinking about how awesome it would be to see that again.

I raced amateur day there in 1981, the track was fun but watching SX there is horrible, you are so far from the track.

Met the guy here in Australia in the late 80’s racing at Tivoli raceway seemed a bit of a wanker saying that was only one of his smaller accidents. On the day he buckled 2 front and 1 rear wheel over the same jump trying to jump way to big didn’t do him to well he had no chance of winning,
