So F1 are looking into going 2 stroke in 2025-6 to help them go carbon neutral. Says the all electric racing cars could be twice as polluting as the current hybrid cars.

This needs to happen. Can you imagine what 22 multi cylinder two-stroke F1 cars screaming into the tunnel at Monaco sounds like? Beautiful music!

That's where the first YZF400 technology came from right, so.....

I would think in terms of carbon neutrality, electric would certainly be problematic if that is F1s goal. In the cases where electric does have a lower footprint, It takes a number of years/miles in the lifecycle of an electric vehicle for the manufacturing carbon output to dip below an equivalent ICE operational output over that time period.

There's no way they'd run a battery long enough to hit that portion of the curve in a highly competitive arena like F1. They'd be demanding freshies every few weeks/months striving for that last few percent in wt/energy ratio.

The long game.........what do we do with all those old crusty batteries that are leaking acid every where? Oh that's right , we'll just stuff them all into the ground , or dump them in the middle of the ocean.

Lead acid batteries are closed-loop recycled, meaning each part the the old batteries is recycled into a new battery. It is estimated that 98% of all lead acid batteries are recycled. ...from batterysolutions.com

You must be referring to the 2% then Jeffro.

I have personally witnessed Maclaren’s in the tunnel with Senna driving. It would take a lot to top that

Eventually the big question will to come into focus, and that question is thus: will lithium-ion powered engines eventually become the vehicular equivalent of the fluorescent light bulb? Which is to say, not bad, but far too environmentally harmful to be the real answer - and quickly shuttled off into oblivion once the REAL solution emerges.

Hydrogen, the world may be your oyster.

The most boring sport on earth, 2 stroke engines will sound nice but watching paint dry will be more interesting.

Lead acid batteries wouldn't make it through practice.

then again, companies are well known to change their minds if the need arises, so who knows what will happen

Getting away motor rev limiter they could push more HP out and make them broke down more often. That could bring back some pushing limits/braking down drama, now Mercedes havent miss race because they never broke down.

It’s really depressing when cars can catch each other, but not even pass, because they overheat if they are outa fresh air for more then 30 seconds.

Nothing to get excited about from a moto perspective; doubt you'd see an opposed piston engine in a motocross bike

That wasn't the point, just replying to Jeffro.

Lead acid generally out perform other battery types for longevity, the problem is size, weight, dangerous corrosive liquid, and explosive vapour.

So with this news, does it mean Honda will drop out of F1. I mean, they did say they would never build another 2 stroke, right?
