More like MotoGP.....just more money for tire warmers that other teams will feel they need to spend for the competitive edge

More like Supermoto...

Anyone have any legitimate info on this, why they're doing it etc?

A warm tire will definitely handle differently than a cold tire. Could be the start of a new tire warmer era in our sport

No its called being smart and optimizing / controlling the tire situation because thats what factory teams should be doing (they get paid to think of things like this). Very cool, so don't hate on people trying to make something better. Move along ...

My only questions are how long does the tire stayed heated? I know riding on pavement will heat the tire up, but does a dirt surface, especially cold dirt surface heat the tire while riding? So basically is this tire warmer for the holeshot only? Or does it maintain this heated level of temperature through-ought the race?

I would be interested to see and actual temperature comparison at the starting gate between these and one without the warmers.

It will definitely be a much warmer/softer tire that will make a difference in performance for sure.

Well exactly what good is this going to do when you roll the tires down cold concrete to get to the stadium floor.. then sit another 20 or 30 minutes waiting on a gate drop.

Agreed, it will be cool to find out when they actually remove the tire warmers before the moto's. Is it performance, or bling? I find it interesting they don't make a heated rim strip that runs off a battery inside the rim lock of the tire if this is actually a legitimate advantage.

Dallas is usually hardpack as hell. Maybe they are looking for that extra hookup on the start with a warm tire, its effing chilly here today.

Me too. I'm thinking those are more for psychological warfare than traction. Laughing

What good would heating the rim do?

They're in the air just as much as they are on the ground and the first thing you learn about tire temps is keeping the temps up by having a constant contact with a surface... preferably a warm one like oh say... asphalt, in the sun.

...expect a bunch of tire warmers at the local practice track next week

and why not fork and shock warmers? That oil gets cold too

I see this as having a lot more effect on pliability of the tire then outright contact patch traction. Maybe they want the tire have the side wall flex it was engineered to have and this is a way of better controlling that.

.........petty......probably, but at the world class level they are looking for any stone to turn over.

They could have heated shock shafts and damping rods that run off of batteries.Evil

Maybe they are just trying it out to see if it does actually have a benefit.
Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Could it be to set tyre pressures more accurately? If I set my tyre pressure before practice, then check them when I get back they can be up to 2 psi higher depending on ambient temp. If they measure the tyre temp after a session and know the exact pressure they want they can heat the tyre to that temp and set the pressure. Any changes in the tyre temp while sitting on the line would correct when the race is underway.
