While I’m going to have my engine apart I thought about doing one of the rm144 kits through Eric Gorr, has anyone had one and give their opinion?

When my so was on supermini's we had Eric build all of his engines. He also built his RM125's and I had him do a 290 kit for my RM250. work was good. I've seen other people post they had trouble, but Eric has always done good for us.

He did a 265 kit on my CR250. Waste of money would not recommend.

I was going to send him a yz250 cylinder and head to do but basically everything online said hes not good.

I had a 2003 RM 125 with his 144 kit installed on it. I bought the bike with it already on there so I can’t say how it was better than stock or anything but it did run strong for a 03. It was also ported for mid/top with VForce 2 reeds, FMF rev pipe & a shorty. I was always happy with it until I rode my buddy’s bone stock 2010 yz125. The YZ felt like it had more power

I have my cylinder and head at his shop right now. I'm only have the base of the cylinder milled and the head redomed for pump gas though.

A couple of years ago I had to go through a motor and he had one stroker crank left for a yz125, so I bought it and had my cylinder bored/ported by him. It ended up being a 15x. I loved the bike. I don't have anything to compare to, but it met every need and expectation I had. It had more power all the way around.
I also had several cylinders simply ported by him. They all came back looking good and the power was what I was expecting.

As with any tuner, you will find stories that they are the best ever and the worst ever. People try to compare their ported motor with others, and when they don't feel WAY better, the tuner is the worst. To me, a tuner is bad if he makes your stuff basically unusable or hacks it up.

Eric Gorr has been inside thousands of cylinders, and will probably be inside thousands more. He's bound to mess up a few, just like every other tuner out there. The VAST majority of his are pretty damn good though.

Danman makes a great point, everyone has off days, and makes a mistake. How does he handle it if your not happy? Or a motor blows up prematurely? That's what I think separates the good guys from bad.

I have one.

2006 RM144 done by EG.

I've had no problems with it and probably gone through about 4 topends on it from normal use. I'm getting ready to do entire engine rebuild soon.

I've been happy with it. I only sent him the topend, I did the case grinding myself.

I sourced a couple of rm125 cylinders back in 2006 and Eric did a few iterations to get a really amazing result on the rm144.
It makes amazing power and really good top end and over rev, like a road racer.
People like to say that 58mm 144s don't make good top end, but ours is really good... We have a tc125 that is supposed to be a screamer, but it signs off earlier than the 144.
Because of the single exhaust port, the rm144 is much more reliable than the 144 that have a bridged exhaust.

In 1997 a fellow co-coworker had his Cr250 done by him & I had the same bike done by a local tuner. The EG mods had slight gains off the bottom vs. the local tuners mods that had modest gains across the rpm range. Also knew of about 3 other local riders at the time that had different manufacturer bikes done by him that were unhappy with the results afterwards.

Personally never used him due to that feedback & never considered him to do any work for any of my engines to date.

I had Eric do four cylinders for my son's KX100-112 about four of five years ago.
His work was amazing and the bikes ran awesome.
He was easy going on the phone when I talked to him.
I have read where people say that they had issues with him, but I was quite the opposite.
I wouldn't hesitate sending more to him.

I've told my EG stories many times, but I will again. These have all been done in the past 3-4 years. Did a 1980 YZ250G that pulls like an animal and has 125-like overrev---exactly what I asked for. Did a 78 RM125C that we did a 6 petal Mossbarger reed set-up,ceramic bearings , PVL and a Lectron. That bike can/did actually out drag race multiple modern YZ125's and pulled the holeshot at MidOhio with my 235 lb ass on it against 160lb dudes. Bike is crazy fast. Has done 2 modern Yz144 engines (one for me and one for my son-in-law) both are much stronger than modded 125's and my son in law can pull one gear higher in most track situations. I have 100% faith in Eric's skill and ability. He has always been responsive to my texts or phone calls and has always had things done (or close to) my requested completion dates. I have a couple friends that have had the same positive experiences that I've had.

As far as the negatives, I have no clue why certain guys bash him, and I'm not saying they are liars and don't have basis for their unhappiness,maybe they do. I can only report what I know and personally experienced. In fact, I have a 77 Husky 125GP cylinder and head going to him in the next week or two.

Hmmmmm, Old Pro? 277? PA? Seems I remember back in the day a young fellow named Stevie Crowe from PA who ran that number. Wild coincidence?

Yep, wild coincidence,lol. Stevie went pretty good in his day too. Unfortunately, I even pre-date Stevie by about 20+years ,lol !!!!! I had my Pro card back in 77-80,raced against those slugs like Smith,Hannah ,Tony D,Sun, Wise ,blah blah. And when I say "raced with" I mean lined up on the same gate and thats about it Whistling

Had him do both of our RM125 and YZ125 and bore then to 144s. No issues at all.

Long story short it would not take off from a gate and would 1/2 to a 3/4 bike length behind once across, and I’m a good starter. Had it done to race the 2 stroke class Loretta’s. Raced one regional on it and didn’t do worth a shit because of the bad starts. Second regional borrowed a buddy’s KTM and had no problem and got qualified.

Last year had PR2 do the cylinder. Runs a lot better now.

I had him port a 2007 cr250 as well. power valve was upside down when returned. took me awhile to figure out why i couldnt get full travel out of the power valve. I just figured like any business he has some young guys doing work also

Had him do my 2005 cr125 to a144 mid to top porting , it all worked as advertised almost no bottom strong mid and crazy strong top , the look of the work on the cylinder looked great and clean . BUT my only complaint was that it was the cylinder i got back was not the one i sent him. my cr 125 had at most 5 hr on it so almost new and the cylinder l got back was definitely used ..a lot but the cylinder plating and port work looked good.. The BAD he dose not reply to Emails, text if you want to know something like jetting or gearing you are on your own, so customer service is suspect
but i was happy with the bike

Thanks everyone for the replies, in the past I’ve heard nothing but good but I’m glad to hear some honest reviews on his stuff. Now for the people that did do a 144 kit for their 125 was it worth it? For $500 I want it to be worth it, i gonna get my crank rebuilt so I figured I’d just send the crank and cases in since it’s included in the kit as well.

My old RM had the EG 144 engine. I loved it! Being a vet now, and 175 lbs, the extra umph was nice. Definitely had a strong mid pull relative to a 125. I don’t think it has the over rev though. It pulled to a point and then was done. Once there, shift.

Eric will port the 144 cylinder to whatever power type you want. I wanted mid and top, my son in law wanted a hard mid kick. He also will recommend the correct pipe and silencer to match up with his porting and your power wishes. For example, since i wanted mid and a lot of top end, we went with the FMF SST with a longer silencer (power core 2) --pulls forever. My son-in-law was recommended to use the FMF Factory Fatty with Shorty silencer --gave him the very hard mid-range kick he was wanting. Eric will also give real close jetting specs.

As far as any communication issues, I've found it best to call/text super early or later in the evening (he's texted me as early as 6 am and as late as 11 pm)

This is one of the many complaints I've seen about his work. Customers talk about getting detonation after he's done the work even though they requested the head be cut to use pump fuel. The quality of pump gas has gone down in the US through the yrs., but they weren't getting any pinging before the work was done.

It’s always baffled me that someone will spend 350+ for porting and head work, or +++ for stroker as well, and run pump gas these days, with the questionable quality of pump fuel.

Does anyone know if he can do anything to a 1986 Honda CR-125? I'm looking for a 134 or larger kit and need my head resurfaced and dome checked along with a crank rebuild. I cannot find anyone that has a kit for a 86? And I can't get Eric Gorr's website to come up?

I've had this issue also, but in Eric's defense, he is usually only going by factory specs when he cuts the head, and sometimes its a guessing game if he doesn't have the whole motor in his possession. So, if you haven't done that, its best to check the squish clearance before and after you have your motor work done. If you don't, Its not anybody else's fault except your own. Don't blame Eric.

He did my 06 yz 126 as a 144 11 years ago definitely much stronger than stock went with the mid/top porting with high compression race gas head. Still pulls good from the bottom up so much stronger i had to go from the stock 13t to a 14t to stop it from wheel spinning.

This isnt just a bolt on mod you better know what your doing.
