Lots of interesting comments on this post. Should there be sand sections for SX? Personally I have enjoyed them and get excited when I see a sand section in a track preview. Daytona worked pretty well.

I already had my pants off.

i vote yes on sand sections. daytonas deep section was great for passing and making or losing time.

Daytona's sand section was the only section that added anything to that race. Loved the chess game of going inside and guessing where the outside guy was going, or going outside to slingshot and have to guess where the inside guy was coming out.

IMO, it causes errors. Riders hate making errors, ergo, they hate sand. For the fans/viewers, it's great. With mistakes come passing and more exciting racing. I'm sure they also hate racing with sand in their pants, but they'll get over it.

For me, I LOVE the sand sections as long as it's a legit sand section. Daytona was sweet with the way guys could rail the outside and make passes. Yes, it gobbled up riders, but oh well. When it's just a straight section, these guys can blast through it without issue normally. When it's in a 180 like this coming week, I think it'll do nothing but add excitement to the races.

Alex Gillespie of Dirt Wurx already commented on the post that they decided to not use sand this weekend. The turn will be regular dirt, same as the rest of the track.

I think straight sand sections are good, like Daytona and the round last year with the white sand, as they can cause multiple lines and like you say mistakes.. The problem I have (and I think the riders have) is that 180 sections just end up being one lined but not just that, it ends up being a massive advantage for the rider in front, as the rider behind gets hosed and yes that causes incentive to be in front but it also causes shitty frustrating racing IMO..

This... it created a lot of passes and guys were either getting pulled through there or pulling someone. What else do you want?

Most of the times it kills the race more than making it better. There are some good ones though. Tampa FL last year for example was cool imo.

You all realize Daytona is a sand track. So you got your 100% sand sx race. So......Why we gotta add sand to a 100% sand track ?

My 4 year old grandson loved it,laughing every time they went through the turn,he learned the word roosted from grandpa and now he is using it for everything.
I am not a fan of sand sections.

I like the sand as a spectator. Seems like it challenges the guys and breaks up the monotony. Where did Dirt Wurx say they aren't running it?

One of the best things about that section this weekend was the time made and time lost. It makes for great racing when guys can make up (or lose) that much time in a section like that.

Agreed. The 180 turn sand sections seem to be the best way to go about it. Looking forward to this weekend.

Not gonna lie, pretty bummed to hear that. I do think that riders should have a say in track design, but these sections make the races more fun to watch. And that really is the end goal, isn't it?

100000% Yes. Tracks these days are too groomed, these are professional athletes, MOTOCROSS athletes. Throw something into the mix, it's sand not lime. friggin Ralph calls the track "the 23rd racer" or whatever he says. Why not throw some sand into the mix and have a ever changing section?

It’s a safe way to provide a challenge to the riders. There was a race a couple years ago with a sand section that looped back under an over under. I remember loads of passes being made between the inside and outside lines that developed.

I remember it being a good race. Wish I could remember which one it was. Can you even watch them on YouTube anymore??
