Think this is the last Honda 500 factory smoker engine. Lovely bit of art.

I wonder how many of the current MotoGP guys could control a bike with that engine in it without relying on a lot of electronic "assistance"? I'd guess Rossi and Marquez could but who else? Maybe few would even want to try. Of course if it's a "Big Bang" type it may be more manageable but honestly how manageable can one of those actually be?

I think you'd be surprised how many on a MotoGP grid could control a bike with this engine in it.

Rossi would have the advantage for sure but none of them could match the speed and control of a modern GP bike...but it'd be fun to watch.

Have you ever seen that documentary called "The Unrideables"? Its a really neat look into just how hairy those 500s were! You had to be half nuts to even ride one, let alone try to race the thing. Imagine having Satan himself between your legs going nearly 200mph

I haven't...I'll look into that. Can you point me in a direction?

Lots of respect for the guys that raced those things back in the day.

Pre Big Bang engines were hard to ride.

Watch any Suzuka 500cc race in the wet. Notice all the wheelbarrows on the side of the grid at the start..

Hard to imagine how long ago that was, and to see the faces of the fastest men in the world, now old men. Amazing times to have been a fan. Thanks for the memories.
