Enduro Racer who maintained max heart race for 2+ hours???

Edited Date/Time 11/29/2021 4:56pm
I remember seeing a story about a professional enduro racer who maintained close to, or at max heart race for a majority of the race. Does anyone have a link or more info on that?

Max heart rate is super over rated.

Thanks for the clarification, I was calling bullshit to myself as I’m sitting here eating doughnuts!

Regardless, nice effort for almost old guy.

Yeah . What is your max heart rate ? Who figures it out ? When I used to run a lot I regularly went beyond what was supposedly the max heart rate for my age .

Pretty normal to have a pretty steadily high heart rate for enduro or hare scramble if you're pushing it. This was from my last race. Sand whoops for 2hrs! If you want a good workout, there's nothing better.

Also, if you have Garmin you can download the MotoSports app and it will automatically do laps for you.

There is something about the adrenaline of riding that "artificially" elevates your HR, or allows you to carry a higher HR.

Look at any of the Pro MX'ers that show their HR data online. They will be flatlined at 190+ for an entire 35 min moto or SX.

I consider 172 to be my max HR on a bicycle (I am 50 yrs old). If I get to 172 riding a bike I am pushing hard, max effort, and will not hold it very long. It's basically a 200 meter deal sprint to the finish line and then fall off the bike and pass out. Yet in MX, I routinely hold a steady 180+ for entire motos

When I raced mountain bikes you could see your competitions HR on strava after. they would be all over the place. usually avg 180., max of 190. some guys would have a MAX of 160. they would just say thats their max, at 45 and expert level.. KR max could be 215.. My highest ever was in arenacross at around 200. Outdoors was usually around 150-160. Really depends how tired you are that day, overtrained, caffeine, asthma inhaler, etc.

You can find it under the Garmin app store under Garmin Connect.

So when you ride a dirtbike you are using all of your muscles which requires more blood flow obviously so your heart rate is higher than other sports. Cycling predominantly uses only legs which is why your max heart rate is typically lower than riding or even running for that matter. It is important to use your sport specific max heart rate when training so that if you are targeting a specific HR zone you are truly in that zone. My max on my dirt bike is around 192 currently. My rower is 180 and cycling is around 178. You also need to factor in your resting heart rate to properly calculate your HR Zones. Resting heart rate gives you an idea if you are over training, recovering properly, stressed, sick etc.

Yeah, obviously you missed the point. The question was, was the KR story believable? We answered with our experiences and examples to show if we routinely have those results, then hell yes a pro can have a higher output for longer. And if KR was going our speeds, he would probably max out at about 85bpm!!

I must have also missed where someone was asking if it was believable?

I took the screenshots along with ya'll saying it's "normal" as sort of downplaying the output KR had and saying what ya'll had done was on a similar level. That's all, didn't mean to hurt any feelers.

No feelings hurt. Just clearing up my and i believe other’s intent. And I may have assumed that was the ? Of the OP from the title. The assumption by the gen public that “that is impossible! Your heart would explode!” Played into the responses. And honestly I expected pros hr to be lower than ours, but i assume that shows how hard he was truly pushing.
