Did Dungey stall in that crash? You have to wonder what Roczen was thinking while trying to kick that old Suzuki back to life....

I don't know if Dungey stalled, but I bet Roczen wished he had electric start and handguards.

I could see Dungey's wheel spinning until he got his hand on the clutch. I'm 99% sure his bike kept running the whole time.

Why they don't have electric start yet I don't understand, with back up kick start seems like a no brainer

My wife was watching the race at that moment with me and I told her when they both went down, "watch how quick Dungey gets going because he has electric start, and watch Kenny have to kick start the bike", she laughed at the situation.

Why would they experiment with anything? Just get the system that the Factory Yamaha team uses in MXGP, problem solved.

Or are there rules against that?

Excited to see the new bike(s) at the end of the month, see who gets the E-start.

If Honda doesn't get one, going orange and not looking back....

Still blows my mind that the rest of the Japanese MFG's are still so far behind on this. Having e-start or not could literally be the difference maker in winning or losing a championship in a tight points race.

First thought when I saw the crash. "If they both stalled, Dungey will have a three turn lead."

Wow have times changed... Everyone was piling on KTM for the added weight. No one will ever win on one.

Wouldn't see how it's against the rules but I'm no expert. Reed was using the Rinaldi hydraulic clutch.Same when Honda did it. It's a complete case redesign, not just a fitting with a slave cylinder like aftermarket Magura stuff.

Do you think it's a case of them just not wanting to copy KTM? It really is such an advantage to have an electric start, you see some guys stall it and they're back going again before they've even stopped rolling

same exact thing at my house. I sold my honda last year and bought a KTM for the button. I was so over the flame out and kick forever while the whole class would go by me. With the button it hasn't happened once, and I have stalled while racing it. As soon as red has a button, I'll be back

While I'm sure each OEM has it's reasons for not yet integrating electric start to their bikes, I can't imagine not wanting to copy KTM is one of those reasons. I could understand this on concept on things like the design/shape of their plastics, but not on something as critical as a push-and-go button over kick,kick,kick..

How would a battery short out from rain? You do realize a 12V DC battery will still work even if submerged in water....and if a lead acid battery is low on acid, you can refill it with water...

lol In all seriousness if a dirt bike had smaller rotors (therefore less likely to get caught in ruts, lets face it the single discs are getting damn big these days), with smaller calipers, that have (for arguments sake) the same braking power as one disc ...would that work?

Electric start cost more to produce and weighs more. KTM is the lightest bike on the market and it has electric start. For Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda amd Kawasiki they would not only have the expense of the starter system but the cost in reducing even more weight.
