stuff like this was great...
"The not so old saying," Different strokes for different folks," could be Mickael Pichon's theme song. Maybe even that Sinatra favorite, "I Did It My Way" is even more appropriate for the young Frenchman who packed his bags for home a frustrated, bitter boy at the turn of the century and returned to America the other day a new man.
Escaping the atrocious weather in France this time of the year for the delights of California sunshine, Pichon glows with a new maturity that only finding one's niche in life can bring. His new professional status allows his ego the risk of taking on two American supercross events while working himself back into shape after a three-month layoff from serious training. Scraping the rust off his once championship supercross form for a third place in his qualifying heat was a
significant step in preparing for the defense of his third consecutive 250 world GP championship.

Back in the late 1970's he was a sportscaster for channel 4 in San Francisco and would always mention that there was going to be a Trans AMA or National MX at Sears Point along with some video footage. The only sportscaster in this area that would even acknowledge the sport at all.
It was a supercross race and Eckman was just blabbering out meaningless sentences intermixed with motolingo and he uttered:
"It was the power of the the Jump they tune into that Honda" I thought what does that even mean.
