Easiest/mellowest 450 to ride?

I'm surprised that there's only been one recommendation for an off road 450. They're all very smooth and so is the suspension which I'm going out on a limb and thinking would suit you also

I'm an old vet slow guy and rode 450's from 05-2012 when I switched to 250's because I realized I couldn't handle the runaway freight train that 450's were to me, then in 2015 my son got a nearly new 2013 Honda 450 and I really liked it, it didn't overwhelm me but it for sure didn't seem slow to me. I could actually ride it better compared to the other 450's I'd had.

Not a 450 but the best bikes I've ever owned, motor-wise, were KTM 520's. I fucking love those motors. Track, trail, ramps, whatever, those bikes were sooooo much fun.

I really liked the characteristics of that motor. Very predictable and user friendly. Those bikes are probably few and far between by now, but if you ever get the chance, ride one. I have not gotten a chance to ride any new 450's but I've ridden pretty much all the older ones. I'm just a huge fan of that 520 power plant.

Just want to post to second this. Sold my ‘14 KX250F a couple week ago for my father-in-law’s ‘16 CRF450R, it’s not as big of a jump in power from what I expected.

I would add the 2017 CRF450R as well plus he’d be on a better chassis minus the spring fork.

My vote would go to the Zuk. Mellow linear power for a 450 that is easy to ride that would be suited for a beginner / novice.

If you want mellower go with a 450 that is carbureted.

When I went from my carbureted 08YZ450F to a FI factory edition I could not believe the instant snap FI gave it.

Find someone local that will let you take a spin on one. The 05-08 CRF450R was also a great bike

These are the posts that make me scratch me head. What horrible advice. “You need to check out 20 yr old 450’s...”
Carbed bikes kick harder than a FI bike when they get in the powerband.GEt a 2013+ CRF450 with a Ron Hamp tune, ask for a Linear tune.

Alta, fire sale prices since BRP bought Alta and has no intention of bringing Alta back.

I went to my first 450 last year. I am by no means a fast rider. my 17 yz450f is sooo easy to ride. I run the smooth linear map from gytr.

I had a 17 husky 350 amd now have a 18 rmz450 and disageee slightly. Yes the 350 at full song was fast, but it would struggle up hills and in deep conditions. A cpuple uphill straights out of turns the 350 needed to be wide open screaming in second the rmz can pull easily in 2nd or 3rd and even pulled 4th on the same hill the husky struggled on. If i screamed 2nd and grabbed 3rd on the husky it still wasn't pulling it well.

Outside of a few sections like that the husky was amazing 95% of the time but more and more i found myself wanting some low end. The rmz has that and has a broad spread atleast for 18 i cant speak to the years before. The rmz let me take different lines and clear jumps from insides and then still get back to the inside.

Im loving the rmz
I'm thinking of doing the same switch what level of rider are you thanks

The engine braking on those bikes was like throwing out an anchor.
