Was contemplating ear plugs the last 4 days...rode 800+ miles on my snowmobile..my head still ringing...and my buddy snores terribly after he drinks ( shared a hotel room ) I was minutes away from smothering him to death..

Anyways, I see Eli wearing plugs- my guess they are to save his hearing? As much time as he spends on a bike..

I’m gonna try it this year. I’ve heard (no pun intended) a lot of good about using them while riding. Not only does it protect your hearing but it helps keep you in tune with your bike and maintains for focused on what I’ve read

I have last 4-5 years just to help protect my ears after all the abuse I put them through in my younger years. To be completely honest only reason I do it, or even thought of it is we use them at work so one day I figured it couldn’t hurt to try, and ended up kinda liking it.

Not sure what kind they are, will have to look at work tommrow, but they come in tiny lil baggy either orange, or green. I get them for free since work don’t mind if I take some extras now, and then, but can’t imagine they’re very expensive. You could probably buy enough to last you long time for really cheap.

My buddy wears them constantly. I always asked why and he says he wants to be able to hear his grandkids in 30 years. Lol.

My livelyhood depends on being able to have good hearing, so always earplugs since the late 90's.

Ride with ear plugs and become a better rider. Seriously. Made the change a few months back and I can't ride without them now. Easier to focus and I feel more "one with the bike" in a sense. It's calming. Doesn't hurt to save my hearing either...

EarPeace is the brand I'm running. They have a motorsports specific set and they attenuate certain frequencies (ex. engine noise) more than others.

On all of my gas bikes I will always ride with ear plugs in. I don't need to when on my Alta.

Like another poster stated, I like the calming effect it has on my thinking. I often forget to put them I and quickly realize it and go back for them.. Mine are just regular construction ear plus and have no issues.

Loud bikes are fatiguing, they teach this in Super bike schools. Helps for MX as well, takes the edge off.

No I don't use them, my helmet filters out most of the noise and I don't have a very load bike. + I am not standing behind it.

You're very naive if you think a helmet cancels out noise to a safe level.

I won't/cannot ride without them now. At first everything does sound a lot quieter but after a while it sounds normal. Just wish I'd worn them from when I first started riding.

It fucked me up quite a bit at first but after about a half a day I fell in love with it.

Felt like wearing headphones at the gym.

Heard this from an ex factory pro from the 70's and 80's. Did alot of training under him when I was a beginner / novice rider. His theory was that alot of people ride to a noise level. So basically the louder your bike is, mentally it is telling you that you are going faster. So wearing ear plugs would lower the sound level that you are hearing thus make you ride faster because mentally you didnt seem to be going as fast.

This is my experience too. No earplugs and I'm like holy cow I'm flogging this poor thing. Put in earplugs, damn, I'm going slow, I have more grip left, get after it!

I put an aftermarket slip on (Two Brothers) on my old 11 KX450 and that thing rattled my ear drums without ear plugs in. Haven't felt I've needed them on any other bike since..

A Person talking is like 60 db, my bike is like 90 at the tail pipe. - the helmet. I think I will be fine since I am 3 feet in front of the tail pipe.

I've never had an issue with the loudness of my bike, but I wear them because when you're following someone else it's loud. Plus once you get above 30mph the wind noise is what gets annoying to me

I've done a thread or two on this subject now. The primary function applied to racing is to cancel out background noise that sub consciously dictates your actions (i.e. crowd noise, your bike noise, the people around you and their bikes) Wearing them allows you to have more of a focus and better sense of "sight", if you will.

I wear custom molded earplugs whenever I'm on my road bike (FZ07 with Akrapovic exhaust). Absolutely love them.

They also help me get a good night's sleep when flying overnight.

Ive noticed my bell moto 9 flex helmet is very quite compared to my Airoh Aviator 2.2.

I have tried earplugs before and I stalled the bike a few times so I threw them away.. but its probably something you get use to I guess if you ride with them for a while.
