ET Choking?

Has anyone considered how ET will ride when he gets the point lead? By now, most people are predicting him to take the points lead. However, with a 7 point gap and 5 races left lets say ET and RD go 1-3, 1-2, and 1-3. That would put ET ahead by 6.

Does this change how ET rides? Now that he would have the Championship firmly in his grip, do we start to see some mistakes that get him off his game and allow the steady RD to capitalize with a win................or two? I gotta think ET getting the points would affect him to a degree.

ET has said he's not thinking about the Championship, but thinking about wins. And its working. But once you get that red plate, you'll think about the Championship.

Idk.. Eli has literally never been in any kind of championship battle so he probably doesnt know how to deal with the pressure.

That is a good question that Tomac needs to answer. When you look at SX in the past with Tomac he starts out slow and builds up as the series goes on. Is it nerves or is it that he is struggling with setup? I assume that he will close the gap more but when he it gets within 2 or 3 points and he keeps winning we will have our answer. I have always thought that it was nerves but we will find out real soon!

The good thing is that at least this late in the season we have this scenario!

No, he didn't choke while leading the outdoors two years ago.

From what I've seen when I was in Toronto he has been the fastest guy no doubt. When I saw him he was just on another level compared to everyone else and he has seemed to be that way ever since. I'm sure it'll maybe change him a bit but he's been so far ahead that he probably has the confidence to seal the deal and make it work in his favour.

I'm not buying this "Tomac isn't thinking about the championship" stuff. There's no way. Dirt Shark, and no I'm not a fan of his, but the one he did 2 weeks ago in Indy showed Tomac multiple times mentioning Dungey and how he's gaining points. I'm not discrediting him for thinking about points, I would too, I'm just saying that there's no way that he's not looking big picture at this point.

I am glad we have a points race. This reminds me a lot of Millsaps getting chased down by RV. Unless RD does something, the same thing will happen, ET will take it. We also have to factor in if ET gets a bad start, and RD gets a good one...would RD let ET by like he does Marvin?

I think that if Tomac doesnt have a mechanical or a wreck, he wins the title.

There's a reason they run all the races.

There's enough pressure around for everyone...both Dungey and Tomac. Ryan hasn't been pressured like this in quite a while.

Eli has won how many Mains...IN A ROW?

You think the color of his number plate will affect him? Uh...NO! He is his father's son: ONE WEEK AT A TIME. "We train harder. We work harder. We WIN ALL OF IT."

His dad did it that way and Eli is the next-generation of his dad's "way of doing things".

Sometimes easier to be behind and throw caution to the wind then be leading and have to protect your lines. Same applies here with the points. Eli has everything to gain and nothing to lose. And Dungey has a lot to lose but nothing to gain. If Eli happens to get the red plate then those roles will be reversed.

I'll agree with this idea..not just for Eli and Ryan but for all points lead changes....it will change how Eli approaches his racing...guaranteed..I hope things tighten right up so we can see how it unfolds

Eli was in a race once when he collapsed mentally, he was on a 250 so it's been awhile.

Not to jinx Eli, but he is riding flawless.. No mistakes, and NO panic. I think mistakes happen when they hit the panic button (ala Zach-O), Eli seems pretty unstoppable at this point.

I would love to know what Kawasaki did, a switch was flipped and I don't think it was Eli. Anybody notice Grant riding significantly better lately too?

In the words of Eli, "we're in it." He wants it, he knows he can get it and he's not going to let anyone or anything get in the way of him attaining the #1 plate.

There is no doubt Tomac wants it and there is no doubt he has earned it but until he has it we will not know how it will affect him. I like Tomac and Dungey equally and can care less who wins the championship. If Dungey wants to retire at the end of the season it would be better for sport for Tomac to win the championship and get a chance for the fans to see him try and defend it. One thing for sure is if Dungey pulls this off the haters will be saying it was a gift.

I'd say theres more pressure on defending champ Dungey to choke.
His confidence is being diminished by the week. Tomac is growing.

I also can't recall him choking in those titles against Roczen. Seems like once he smells blood and gets on a roll he's unstoppable.

Choking no. But everything can happen. I really thought we would see an exciting battle for the win with Eli's mid grid at Detroit. I really think Dungey will win at least one more, if not Tomac's win streak stats will rank very high (3rd after MC and RC or did JS7 did such a streak in 09?).

These 5 races will be extremely interesting to watch, as interesting as 2011 or 2009.

Give him a 5th instead of the 15th from that mysterious front end issue, guess who's points leader......

Just saying, he knew he could do it a while ago. It's just taken a lot to catch up.

Tomac is dialed in this year. I'm predicting that he wins it. I'll be in Vegas for the first time in years and finally this race will mean something. Looking forward to it.

He did kind of choke in Salt Lake that one year when he was going for the west title, so he has done it before. He has matured an awful lot since then though and I wouldn't count on him doing it again.
